Abstract
1295904 Graft polymerization process INRESCOR AG FUR INDUSTRIELLE FORSCHUNG UND STRAHLENNUTZUNG 4 Feb 1970 [4 Feb 1969] 5419/70 Addition to 1279709 Heading C3G A monomer is graft polymerized on to a polyester, polyamide or polyacrylonitrile substrate in the presence of a free-radical catalyst at a temperature within the glass transition temperature range of the said substrate. An accelerator, for instance a heavy metal organic salt or a tertiary amine, may also be present. The monomer may be contacted with the substrate in the presence of a solvent for the monomer or a swelling agent for the substrate. In the examples, (1) polyethyleneglycol terephthalate fabric is grafted with styrene in the presence of dibenxoyl peroxide and N,N-dimethylaniline; (2) polyhexamethylene adipamide fabric is grafted with styrene in the presence of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cobalt octanoate and (3) modified polyacrylonitrile fabric is grafted with acrylic acid in an aqueous medium containing ceric ammonium nitrate and nitric acid.
