Abstract

1288681 Dyeing apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Jan 1970 [24 Oct 1968 13 Nov 1969] 1831/70 and 1832/ 70 Divided out of 1243403 and 1279814 Heading D1L Apparatus for applying a plurality of dye solutions to a fabric which may be travelling horizontally comprises a padding mangle 1, 2; a plurality of dye liquor vessels 11; an inclined surface 4 maintained in contact with the fabric 3 at an acute angle thereto at a point upstream from the mangle; and a plurality of means, e.g. a valve-pipe-nozzle arrangement 10, 9, 8 to feed the liquors onto the surface whereby they flow side-by-side onto the fabric. The surface 4 may be smooth or ridged. The bottom end 6 may be bevelled to lie parallel with the fabric and a line of holes may be provided across the surface near its point of contact with the fabric. Holder 7 of the feeding means may be reciprocable, optionally such that whole groups of jets 8 move independently. In an alternative embodiment (Figs 2 and 3, not shown), liquid from jets 8 is fed to axial troughs (13) in the surface of a rotating cylinder (12) arranged across the top of the inclined surface. As the cylinder rotates, liquid from each trough in sequence is delivered as a batch onto the surface.
