Abstract

1288352 Hose or pipe couplings CARL KURT WALTHER 27 May 1971 [11 June 1970] 17423/71 Heading F2G In a hose or pipe coupling, the male and female parts 2, 1 are drawn together when a pivoted bail 16 is swung over the coupling to rotate discs 15 mounted on pivots 14 on the female part 1 so that rollers 18 on the male part 2 traverse a slot 17 in the discs 15, eccentric with respect to the pivot 14, a seal 12 effectively sealing the coupling before the male part 2 contacts and opens a self-closing valve 7 in the female part 1. The upper half of Fig. 1 shows the disposition of the parts prior to coupling, with the rollers 18 entering the slots 17 through side openings 19, and the lower half shows the coupling fully engaged wherein the valve 7 and a further valve 10 in the male part 2 are open. As shown, the valve in the female part 1 comprises a fixed core 4 mounted on a transverse web 3 and a seating sleeve 5 urged by a spring 6 to close the valve until the male part 2 enters the part 1. The valve in the male part comprises a spring-urged central core 10 which unseats from an internal flange portion of the male part 2 upon contact with the fixed core 4 of the other valve. As shown in Fig. 2 the rollers 18 roll on the inside surface of the arcuate slot 17 coming to rest in an enlarged end portion 20 of the slot. A second slot 21 may have detent portions 24, Fig. 1, into which a locking ball 23, Fig. 2, is urged by a spring in a sleeve 22 fixed in a mounting plate 13.
