Abstract
1286644 Separating particles from gas stream R R RAAD 14 Nov 1969 [18 Nov 1968] 55983/69 Heading BIT [Also in Division B8] In a pneumatic conveyer system for solid material, a fan 22 is connected in parallel with the material conveying duct. As shown, a chamber 18, having a lateral outlet 20 connected to a centrifugal fan 22, is connected between sections 14, 16 of the conveyer duct, and the outlet 24 of the fan is connected by a further duct to the duct section 16. The chamber 18 is provided with baffles to prevent material from entering the fan. The inlet duct section 14 is provided with baffles for deflecting the material into the lower part of the chamber 18 beneath a plate (34), Fig. 1 (not shown). Air and fines in the upper part of the chamber are deflected laterally through vanes 38, which impart a swirling motion to the air, onto the surface of a conical member 40, whereby the fines are thrown outwardly. The substantially clean air at the centre of the whirling stream passes through an aperture in the centre of the conical member 40 into the outlet 20. The air carrying the remaining fines makes a 'hairpin' change of direction around the periphery of the member 40 and passes through further vanes 44 to the outlet 20. The separated fines then pass down a shoot 60 into the duct section 16.
