Abstract
1282015 Mica paper JAPAN MICA INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 18 July 1969 [19 July 1968 7 Nov 1968 1 March 1969] 36404/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A mica paper comprises a backing layer such as a synthetic resin film, paper or a textile material of glass or wood pulp fibres to which is bonded an integrated mica sheet, i.e. a sheet formed of fine mica pieces or leaves mixed with fibres e.g. of wood pulp and bound together with an electrically insulating binder, said integrated mica sheet being impregnated with a solventless binder and freed of surplus binder. When a paper backing layer is employed the integrated mica sheet may be applied thereto while the paper layer is wet during the course of its manufacture. The bonding of the integrated mica sheet and the backing layer may be effected by a binder or, in the case of paper or textile backings, by intertwining of the fibres of the backing into the integrated mica sheet. The binder may be applied only around the peripheral boundary. Impregnation with the solventless binder e.g. an epoxy resin may be carried out before and/or after bonding of the layers suitably under reduced pressure.
