127,661. Watson & Co., T. H., Greaves, H. A., and Etchells, H. May 16, 1917. Furnace details.- An electrode passing through a furnace wall or roof is surrounded, just outside the furnace, by a water-cooled sleeve b, the outer end of which is bevelled to accommodate a packing-ring c of asbestos and graphite, or other composition. An outer bevelled washer d serving to compress the packing-ring is attached to the water-cooled sleeve by studs or bolts, between which and the washer may be interposed springs to allow for irregularities in the electrode. The water-cooled sleeve may be cemented to the brickwork or casing.
