Abstract

[Also in Division C3] Metal castings, preferably of iron, are produced by pouring the molten metal into sand moulds coated with a lining of barium sulphate. The barium sulphate may be applied as a dry powder or in water or in an organic solvent. The BaSO 4 may be admixed with a refractory powder such as plumbago, graphite, carbon, zircon, silica, chromite, kyanite, kieselguhr, clay, siliminite or olivine.
