Abstract

126,005. Nicolas, A. E. L. April 1, 1914, [Convention date]. Self-sustaining gear; brakes and retarding-apparatus; overwinding, preventing.-Relates to self-sustaining and braking apparatus and end stop-gears for lifting-gear. The driving sprocket 6 is mounted on tht shaft 1 which has a screwed portion 2 carrying a screwed disk 7 with a dogclutch 8, rotation of the shaft thus causes the clutch to engage the flanged sleeve 10 carrying a pinion geared to the winding drum and also causes the disk 7 to press friction disks 13 against a ratchet wheel 12 adapted to be held when required by a pawl 14. To lower the load the shaft is given a few turns in the reverse direction, this jams the disk 7 against the flange 3 on the shaft, where it is' held by the sliding movement of the sleeve 10 and intermediate parts produced by linkage 23 operated by a pivoted lever 15 having at one end an adjustable roller 26 and carrying at its other end a pulley, (not shown), over which the load suspending rope passes. The ratchet wheel is held stationary by its pawl and the load descends, the braking effect produced thereby being regulated by adjusting the roller 26. If the load descends too quickly, sliding pawls 32 on the disk 7 which engage ratchet teeth on a ring 30 loosely mounted in the casing and carrying a brake band 33 with a centrifugal weight, cause the brake band to be applied. If the shaft is stopped from rotating, the disk 7 moves towards the sleeve 10, the ratchet wheel which is held by its pawl is thus gripped by the friction disks 13 and the load is suspended, additional holding means being provided by the pressure of the end flange 10<a> of the sleeve 10 against a thrust ring 5 on the shaft. An end stop gear comprises adjustable collars 35 on a screwed part of the shaft between which is arranged a forked arm 37 mounted on a suitably revolving shaft 38 of the driving gear. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a pulley-block in which levers 31, 32, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), transmit the load from the hook 33 to braking disks 6, 7. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
