Abstract
1,259,253. Controlled frictional igniter. L.A.R.B. DE LA ROCHE. 26 Aug., 1970, No. 40965/70. Heading F4F. A frictional igniter comprises a knurled wheel 8 bearing on a metalliferous compound or flint 10, the wheel being rotatably connected to a helical torsion spring 12 which is pretensioned by a setting knob (3) with pawls 26 and engaging teeth 24 forming ratchet means, is releasable by actuation of a trip lever 5, and is controlled by means limiting the rotation of the wheel at each actuation to a predetermined value sufficient to produce a plurality of sparks. Knurled wheel 8 is fixed to a rod 7 encased in sheath 6 and casing 4, and is rigidly coupled with members 15 and 16 and radial blades 30a, 30b, 30c which are engageable with abutment members 33 and 34 on lever 5. The lever 5 has a resilient blade 35 and normally member 34 prevents blade 30a and hence rod 7 from rotating (as in Fig. 4), but on depression of lever 5, the blades and rod 7 are urged by spring 12 to rotate in the direction of arrow 42 one-third of a revolution until blade 30c abuts member 33, thus producing a shower of sparks. On releasing lever 5, blade 35 resets the device so that it can be reused many subsequent times before spring 12 becomes untensioned, necessitating operation of the rotary setting knob (3). A cam-operated presser lever 45 with pivot-pin 46 and lever 52 normally presses flint 10 against wheel 8 but, on rotation of lever 52, is released and allows the flint to be replaced
