[Also in Divisions B5 and B8] Apparatus for feeding material into a mould having a cavity of varying width for the manufacture of structural members includes a carriage support means 1, Fig. 1, a carriage 2 movably mounted thereon and carrying at least one discharge hopper 3 and a feeding and compacting device 5 adapted to receive material from the hopper. The device 5, Fig. 2, is vertically adjustable and has a discharge funnel 11 having an elongated opening which when the funnel is rotated by a motor and belt always overlies the mould cavity (Fig. 4 not shown) to discharge the material. A removable screen 14 located over the funnel opening is vibrated by the vibrating means 13 to uniformly spread the material.
