Abstract
1,112,876. Arc furnaces. ALLM€NNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 6 Oct., 1966 [7 Oct., 1965; 8 Nov., 1965], No. 44669/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Division B1] In a method of and apparatus for treating a metallic melt a ceramic ladle 21 having a non- magnetic (e.g. stainless steel) shell 22 and a multiphase stirring winding 23 is mounted for relative movement as on a wheeled carriage 24 between a plurality of stations of which one comprises a closing furnace arch 27 provided with arc heating electrodes 28; another may be a vacuum hood 25 with evacuation conduit 26. The furnace arch may also have an evacuation conduit 29. The ladle may be fixed and the heating and degassing covers movable (see Fig. 6, not shown); the latter may be replaced by a vacuum tank. The stirrer coil may be cylindrical and surround the ladle as shown; it is preferably energized at a frequency between 0À1 and 10 c.p.s. in a manner to cause a downward circulation in the centre of the ladle, (see Figs. 1-3 not shown).
