Abstract

1,111,341. Boots &c. A.J. SCHELLKOPF. 21 Jan., 1966 [3 Feb.,1965], No. 3037/66. Heading A3B. An article of footwear has a cross strap which can be swung from a position extending around the rear of the foot to a position extending across the instep of the foot In a first embodiment (Fig. 3) the cross strap 30 is pivoted at 32 to projections 33 secured to the sole 27 and is movable between a forward storage position as shown in Fig. 3 where it is held in place by a retainer 34, the shoe then being used as a backless shoe, and a rearward position, the shoe then being used as a sling back shoe. In a second embodiment (not shown) a slipper has an upper which extends rearwardly as far as the breast face of the heel and the cross strap is pivoted to the rearward portion of the upper. In a third embodiment (Fig. 1) a sandal is formed with resilient straps e.g. of rubber. The cross strap 23 is formed so that it normally assumes its storage position across the instep (Fig. 1), but can be moved so that it occupies a position extending around the rear of the foot.
