Abstract

1,107,060. Spray-producers. INDUCAL BERLIN VEB. 24 Aug., 1965, No. 36402/65. Heading B2F. A device of pistol construction suitable for spraying paint electrostatically or pneumatically comprises a cup-shaped atomizer 1 adapted to be rotated by a drive shaft 5, an impeller 6 arranged to be driven by compressed air supplied through a conduit 15 so as to rotate said shaft, and means for supplying compressed air and paint to a nozzle 7 at the end of the shaft 5 through conduits 14 and 13 respectively. During electrostatic spraying the spray head is either maintained at a high potential or a metal electrode is located in the paint feed conduit 13. Compressed air is supplied through the conduit 15 only and paint fed through the conduit 13 is diverted at right angles and flows downwardly into the rotating cup 1. The paint passes through slits 1f in a disc 1c and is atomized at an edge 1g. The device is converted to pneumatic spraying by rotating avalve 17 and the high potential may be switched off if required. The air supplied through the conduit 14 causes the paint to be discharged centrally through outlets 10 and 1d. The casing 1a of the cup 1 may be removed from its flange 1b to facilitate cleaning. Air is also discharged through an outlet 18 so as to prevent back-spray.
