Abstract

1,178,744. Centrifugal separators. C. NIHOT, E. R. NIHOT and P. A. H. SAUERSSIG. 1 March, 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 9695/67. Heading B2P. A centrifugal separator, for separating an air stream containing waste products into a relatively small portion containing a high percentage of waste products and a relatively large portion containing a low percentage of waste products, comprises a tubular bend member 12, Fig. 1 of rectangular or square cross-section extending over 45‹-180‹ and having at one end a bifurcating member 15 widening in the direction of the air stream and carrying at its outlet end a separating partition 17 for portioning off the air stream. The bend member 12 is connected to a spiral-shaped delivery channel 9 of a centrifugal pump for sucking off, with the aid of air as transparent medium, waste products from around wood working machines in a work room in order to separate these products from the air. Mounted upstream of the partition 17 is a member 22 fixed on a spindle 23 which is pivotably actuated by means outside the member 15 for adjusting the portioning off of the air stream. Due to centrifugal force the coarse products get separated against the outer wall of the members 12 and 15 and leave with 5-25% of the air stream through an outlet pipe 20 which is connected to a cyclone separator from which the air is discharged to the atmosphere and the coarse products are carried off to a wood waste room. The light products leave with the bulk of the air through a discharge pipe 21 which is connected to a filter from which the air is returned as clean air to the work room. In a modification, Fig. 2, the discharge channel 25 of the centrifugal pump may be of circular cross-section and may be connected via a connection portion 27 to-the bend 12a. The latter is integral with the bifurcating member 15a which in turn is integral with the partition member 17a and the discharge pipes 20a, 21a. In a further modification, the bend and bifcurcating member assembly and the pump 1 may be in different planes.
