In a slag fuming process, for recovery of one or more of Pb, Zn, Sn or other volatile elements from slags obtained in the production of non- ferrous metals, a liquid fuel (e. g. masut or naphtha) is atomized at a pressure of at least 15 atmospheres, the atomized fuel is mixed with air and the mixture is injected into the slag to be treated. The mixture may be injected from a tuyere comprising a mixing chamber a feedpipe with a nozzle at one end thereof which atomizes the liquid fuel, and an inlet for the air supply.
