Abstract
1,130,845. Gas blowing lances. NORANDA MINES Ltd. 28 March, 1967 [13 April, 1966], No. 16232/66. Heading F4B. A lance assembly used for injecting a gas stream into a bath of molten material 20 and which is cooled by introducing a finely divided spray of liquid droplets into the gas stream comprises a lance having a feed chamber 6 attached to it. Water or other liquid such as naphtha is delivered to the lance 3 through an inlet tube 34. The gas stream enters the chamber 6 through an opening 33 and passes through an atomizing nozzle 36 designed so that a mixture of water droplets and gas passes through the lance 13 wherein the water is vaporized. When the lance assembly is used in copper refining the gas is an hydrocarbon such as propane, butane, ethane or methane.
