Abstract
1,026,061. Metal-vapour lamps. CSF COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Aug. 13, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 31931/63. Heading H1D. An auxiliary heater winding is connected in series with the normal high frequency exciting winding of a plasma tube in such a way that magnetic fields created by the low frequency heating current are substantially mutually cancelling. In the arrangement shown an electrodeless lamp comprising an envelope 1 filled with saturated alkali metal vapour, e.g. rubidium or caesium, is surrounded by two lengths, of coaxial cable with a condenser 4 joining the ends B and C at which the inner conductor 12 forming the heating winding and the outer conductor 11 forming the exciting winding are connected together. High frequency energy from coaxial feeders Y and Z is applied at points P and Q on the outer conductors 11. Low frequency heating current is supplied by a generator 5 to the inner conductors 11 and returns to earth via the outer conductors 12 and a metal plate 6. The envelope 1 with its surrounding windings and plate 6 may be mounted in an outer envelope 7, Fig. 3 (not shown).
