Abstract
A cleansing composition for hard surfaces comprises at least 50% by weight of one or more inorganic detergent builder salts and a ternary mixture consisting of from 2.5 to 10% of an anionic organic detergent, from 0.2 to 5% of a non-ionic polyethoxy detergent and 2 to 6% of a water-soluble o-phenylphenate, all percentages being by weight of the composition. Specified anionic detergents are alkali-metal salts of alkyl and alkylaryl sulphuric and sulphonic acids, specified non-ionic detergents are ethylene oxide condensates with alkyl phenols or alcohols and specified builder salts are alkali-metal or ammonium carbonates, bicarbonates, sesquicarbonates, phosphates, polyphosphates, borates, and silicates. The composition may also contain bleaching agents, soil-suspending agents, e.g. caboxymethyl cellulose, inert salts such as sodium sulphate, perfume, colouring matter and/or tarnish inhibitors. The composition may be in the form of a particulate solid.
