Abstract

The invention relates to a device making it possible to fix the safety cord or chain permanently to the branch of the spectacle, which will prevent this cord from slipping and will allow, without any discomfort, easy positioning of the branch on the ear contour. The part (2) is crimped to a third of the length of the branch and cannot slip thanks to the steel cable 8/10 th in diameter serving as crimping the part (2) under a tension of eighteen kilograms. It consists of a support (2) crimped by the cable on the branch of the bezel. This crimping is done with a special multi-function pliers. Parts (2) and (4) are independent and are connected by screw connections. Thus, the user can change cords or chains at will, depending on the fashion or wear criteria of the cord or chain. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for fixing cords or chains on the frames of optical or sunglasses.

Description

FIXING SILK CORDS AND CHAINS
OF METAL OR PLASTIC GLASSES.

The present invention relates to a device for permanently fixing cords or chains on branches of optical or sunglasses.

The fixing of these cords or chains is usually made by an O-ring or rubber tube, tightened by a ring, which traps the branch. But this system is not reliable because under the action of light, this fixation is destroyed and moreover, constantly slides on the branch, which does not bring the expected security. The rubber, despite its ease of elongation, cannot be fixed on any width or thickness of branches.

The device of this invention overcomes these drawbacks.

According to a first characteristic, it comprises an unbreakable and stainless steel cable of variable length whose tension before crimping is 18 kilograms. The steel cable is crimped by a copper tube under a pressure of 120 kg. This assembly, composed of the cable and the tube, definitively immobilizes the main part of this system on the telescope branch.

This part then makes it possible to fix any cord or chain of glasses.

The cable stretched to 18 kilograms cannot slip, hence the possibility of permanently placing the center of traction in the ideal and final position. Then, to this crimped part, the cord of its choice is fixed by a female part which is screwed onto the other male part which is also tapped.

By this process, the user can change the cord or chain (have different colors or materials or go from a metal chain to a silk or leather cord).

According to particular embodiments, the cord or the chain can be directly fixed to the piece set on the branch where an intermediate piece is adapted to it, which will then be fixed by a ring to the bell which serves as an end piece for the cord or the chain.

For the crimping of the male part on the branch by the cable, a tool with two functions is required:
1) Cable pull to 20 kg
2) 120 kg crimping press (see figure).

The figure n "5 represents the male part crimped on the branch where the female part is screwed which is used as end of the cord or the chain.

With reference to these drawings, the fixing device comprises a stainless steel cable (1) of variable length which is cut to the desired length to encircle the branch and crimp the part (2), a very small part but of great precision which comprises at its lower part a male part which is screwed. It is in this room that the crimping tube whose length is 5 millimeters will be centered. It will serve as a support for the female part (3) which is the support for the cord or chain.

By way of nonlimiting example, the piece to be crimped, plus the piece supporting the cord will together make about 7 millimeters in length and 4.5 millimeters in diameter.

This device according to the invention is particularly intended for fixing silk cords or metal chains, essential accessories so as not to lose optical or sunglasses.

Claims (6)

 1) Device for fixing the chains or the spectacle cords, characterized in that it comprises a support part (2) definitively crimped to the branch by a cable (1) of indestructible stainless steel, and a removable part (4) which is fixed by screwing to the part (2). This piece being the support of the cord.  2) Device according to claim (1) is characterized in that the part (2) can only be an intermediate bell-shaped which will then be connected to another piece supporting the cord, also in the form of a bell and connected by an open ring. (Assembly not shown in the drawing.)  3) Device according to claims 1 and 2 characterized by the interchangeability of the part (4) allowing the user to put according to his choice a silk cord or a metal chain without having to change the part (2) permanently set to the branch.  4) Device according to claims 1,2 and 3 is characterized in that this unique system offers a tensile strength never proposed, or eighteen kilograms.  5) Device according to claims 1,2,3 and 4 is characterized in that the cable thus crimped can not move on the telescope branch and thus will never interfere with the establishment of the branches on the ears of the patient.  6) Device according to all claims 1,2,3,4 and 5 is characterized by a cord attachment whose fixed support is small: eight millimeters in length and four in diameter.
