Abstract

The wooden bottle case e.g. for grand wines from Bordeaux has an outer shell consisting of a front and rear panel (3) and two end panels (2) fixed to a base (4) e.g. by nailing or gluing. Two separate layers of spacer panels (1) are placed inside the outer shell either in slots in the end panels (2) or on battens fixed inside the end panels. The bottles which may be in a single or double row e.g. 3, 6, 12 bottles per case are lowered into the holes in the spacer panels other manually or using a robot arm. The spacer panels are positioned near the base and shoulder of the bottles and the holes are the same diameter at each level. The case is completed by fixing a cover panel or lid (5). ADVANTAGE - The packing case allows rapid automatic or semi-automatic installation of the bottles on a production line. (5pp Dwg.No.3/4)
