Abstract

The shaft has a journal bearing (2) supporting it between the drive pinion and an axial retaining ring. The retaining ring is moulded in situ onto a milled part of the shaft, replacing the conventional procedure of welding into a groove below a shoulder cut in the shaft. The fabrication procedure commences by milling a textured surface onto the emergent part of the distributor shaft, then a retaining ring, manufactured from an alloy, is formed in situ, ensuring good location in the milled surface of the shaft. The machining of the shaft is thus simplified, and it need not be raised to welding temperatures.
