Abstract

The method of covering the rim of a steering wheel for a car, uses a strip of leather large enough to fit all around the rim. The strip is heated inside an enclosure while fitted over the outside of the rim so as th shrink it and cause it to curve around the rim. The leather strip and the rim are removed and an adhesive is applied inside the curved strip and outside the rim. The strip is them clamped around the rim between two blocks shaped to match the curvature. When set hard, a double bladed rotary cutter is passed around the inside to trim the edges of the joint, forming a groove. This groove is covered with a narrow inner strip using adhesive. The inner strip may be decorated to stimulate stitches.
