Abstract

1398685 Steering wheels EVANFORD Ltd 17 Aug 1972 [1 June 1971] 18331/71 Heading B7J A steering wheel tubular rim 3 is provided with a recess 4 extending throughout its peripheral length, and a covering strip 5 of leather or plastics material is wrapped around the rim with its longitudinal edge portions 6, 7 folded into the recess (slot) 4 and secured therein by an elongated flexible solid strip insert 8, having a curved head 9, a neck 10 and a tapered portion 11. The head 9 closes the mouth of the recess 4 and provides with the covering strip 5 a substantially continuous trimmed surface. If desired the edges of the recess 4 may be inturned and a foam underlay may be disposed intermediate the rim 3 and the cover 5. In another embodiment the rim is of solid section and the recess comprises a groove therein. The insert 8 may have teeth or barbs to penetrate into the material of the edge portions of the cover.
