Abstract

The effluent is pretreated, pref. continuously to ppte. radioactive cpds. and form a stable suspension of these cpds. 1 pt. wt. of the suspension is mixed with 0.6-2 pts. wt. cement, and 0.5-5 wt% w.r.t. the wt. of cement, of asbestos fibres, possibly adding water to ensure the setting of the cement. The suspension contains 15-75% dry matter, plus a suspension agent, and is cast into a container after mixing with the cement and asbestos. The pref. suspension contains 40-400 g/l of pptes. plus 0.2-6 g/l sodium silicate as the suspension agent, and at least part of the asbestos, it is then evaporated at 70-130 degrees C, to obtain 30-75% dry matter before adding the remainder of the asbestos and the cement. The mixt. may also contain 5-30% bitumen w.r.t. the wt. of cement. A reliable process which reduces the vol. of concrete obtd. and the concrete has high strength.
