Abstract

Method of storing and recovering energy comprises heating CaCO3 to transform it into CaO and CO2 comprises cooling the CaO, the sensible heat from the CaO being used to preheat the CaCO3. The CaO is then stored. To recover the energy, the CaO and CO2 are reacted and the heat of reaction is released for use, the heat being carried by the gas vector of the CO2. The gas vestor charged with CO2 is provided by an industrial plant such as a power station, a gas turbine or a cement kiln. It is not necessary to use the same mass of gas (CO2) to contact the CaO to recover the heat as was obtd. during the decomposition. The process does not require that periods of storage and use of the energy are alternate and consecutive as in prior art. Storage and recovery of energy may take place at locations sepd. by any distance.
