Abstract

Loading device is for a furnace employed to heat treat metal tubes. A long horizontal opening is provided in the inlet wall of the furnace, and closed by a drum mounted on a swivel shaft so the drum can be reciprocated between two positions. In one position, the tubes can be fed one at a time into a V-groove on the drum periphery, and, in the other position, the tube rolls sideways into the furnace. A curved shield is pref. mounted on the inlet wall above the drum to limite the escape of fumes from the furnace. Device is used for side loading of very long tubes (e.g. over 30 metres long), esp. seamless tubes which are reheated before travelling to a sinking or reducing mill. High loading speeds can be used, but heat losses are kept to a min.
