Abstract
940,827. Rotary heat treatment furnaces. HOLCROFT & CO. June 15, 1962 [July 17, 1961], No. 23060/62. Heading F4B. A heat treatment furnace of the rotary drum type comprises a drum 52 rotatably mounted on a pair of steel rollers 36 in the chamber 12 heated by radiant tubes 66 and supplied with a treatment atmosphere e.g. methane, the drum being formed internally with a helical conveyer screw 54. A discharge shoot 68 leads to a quenching tank 70 from which an extractor screw 72 lifts work on to an endless conveyer 78 passing through a finishing furnace 75. The rollers 36 are supported on T-shaped beams 26 of silicon carbide and are driven by a sprocket 50 through stub shafts 44 in bearings 46. The drum 52 may be perforated, and a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), incorporates two drums.
