Abstract

Vacuum forming is used to cover articles with sheet material for protective or decorative purposes. The item being covered is supported slightly clear of the porous base of the mould so that the thermoformed sheet is drawn partially beneath the bottom of the item. Subsequent severing of the sheet below and parallel to the bottom edge of the item leaves the cover positively located by the overhang of the edge of the item. Suitable for covering containers or closures individually or in stacked groups. The sheet may be opaque or transparent, opt. may be printed or covered with a flock before or after being formed, e.g. to cover the base of ashtrays, etc.
