Abstract

Solar energy heater for fitting into the roof of a building, to be used for heating, air conditioning and the distributing of hot water. The heating element consist of two undulating sheets of steel, 1mm thick, joined together in the valleys. The face exposed to the sun is coated with a preparation to enhance its absorption properties. A reservoir behind the sheets contains a serpentine from which water is distributed through the house. A thermostat interrupts the circuit of the heating part when its temp. drops. An electric heater is incorporated, which comes into operation when the water temp. in the reservoir is too low to heat the water in the serpentine to the required temp. The heating element described can be integrated directly into the roof of a building with very little modification of the framework. Each unit has its own reservoir, thus removing the difficulty of putting a large reservoir in existing framework.
