Abstract

The boiler has a vertical cylindrical gas burner in the centre of a combustion chamber enclosed by a heat exchanger with finned vertical water tubes. The fins are of varying size up the tubes so that the heat transfer area is adjusted to obtain a uniform flue gas temp. over the whole heat exchanger. The burner is supplied with combustion air by a forced draught fan. Gas is injected through a main nozzle and an auxiliary nozzle which is controlled from a flue gas thermostat to maintain the correct air fuel ratio. A calorifier above the heat exchanger contains a secondary coil in which domestic how water is heated.
