Abstract

A machine makes cubes of material, esp. sugar lumps. It has a matric in the form of a rotating cylindrical drum with slots in its wall. Pistons move to-and-fro radially in the slots under the influence of cams. Outside the drum, at some distance apart and following each other in the direction of rotation are a feed station, a back pressure organ, a discharge station and a cleaning station. The feed is via a bunker with an outlet towards the drum. Material is fed to the bunker by a screw conveyor with variable pitch blades. The feed screws can run at constant speed which simplifies the drive design.
