Abstract

The As is removed to a level below 0.03%. The finely ground ore is mixed with 2-3% carbonaceous combustible material and passed through a rotating furnace in which natural gas is burnt in air with a gas/air ratio between 10 and 14. The ore passes in the opposite direction to the gas fumes. The speed of rotation and inclination of the furnace are adjusted so that charge remains 1.5-2 hr. in the furnace. The atmosphere and temp. are controlled so that As is eliminated in the form of gaseous As2O3 and the ore at the discharge point is softened and due to the rotation of the furnace forms granules which may be directly utilised in the blast furnace.
