Abstract
Extraction of Pb from PbS ore by blowing in a blast furnace with a gas contg. >=60% O2, the gas carrying the ore or concentrate and coke or coal dust so that it strikes the melt surface with a force great enough to carry it into the melt, whereby the melt is covered with a slag contg. >=35% Pb as PbO, while the flame temp. is kept at >1300 degrees C and the melt temp. at >1100 degrees C. Increased yield of both Pb and S result.
