Abstract
Metallostatic pressure is kept constant, for a given side relative to that of the meniscus, on the shape or tube being made. This ensures that the margin of tolerance between the shape's part going into the airlock and the joint section is low enough that air input is less than output of pumps. Also, length of cooling zone limits extraction speed of cast shape and allows latter to contact airlock outlet spray at constant and controlled temp. Applications are continuous casting of metals in vacuum, especially uranium tubes. Advantages is simultaneous de-gassing, continuous casting and controlled cooling under vacuum.
