Abstract

In a method, cellulose carbamate is dissolved in an alkaline aqueous solution in different steps with solutions having different concentrations. The dissolving is carried out in three steps: 1) prewetting of the cellulose carbamate is performed with a dilute aqueous NaOH solution, under simultaneous cooling; 2) more concentrated NaOH solution, cooled to a temperature lower than 0°C, is added, under simultaneous stirring, in such a way that the cellulose carbamate is dissolved and the alkali concentration of the solution exceeds 9%, and subsequently, 3) a dilute NaOH solution is added so that the final alkali concentration of the solution drops to a value below 9%.
