EL COMPUESTO PODOFILOTOXINA SE EXTRAE DE LAS PLANTAS DEL GENERO PODOPHYLLUM (AUNQUE SE HA EMPLEADO HASTA AHORA UN EXTRACTO IMPURO DENOMINADO <PODOFILINA>), DE LOS RIZONAS, SECADOS Y FINALMENTE MOLIDOS, CON ACETATO DE ETILO Y EL EXTRACTO SE CONCENTRA Y SE FILTRA A TRAVES DEL GEL DE SILICE. LA FRACCION DESEADA SE CROMATOGRAFIA DESPUES SOBRE ALUMINA ACIDA Y SE PRODUCE UNA FRACCION QUE ENTRE OTROS COMPUESTOS CONTIENE PODOFILOTOXINA QUE SE AISLA DE LA MEZCLA POR CROMATOGRAFIA EN GEL DE SILICE Y DESPUES SE RECRISTALIZA.
