Abstract

The flow control valve for a hydraulic steering servo has a control sleeve (20) with inlet and outlet ports and an inner control piston (15) with a stepped profile to control the fluid flow. The edges of flow grooves provide a non-turbulent flow with a low noise. The control provides a central setting without any flow, with progressive flow when the central piston is displaced. A direction control provides the steering control. Alternately, two similar valves are operated by steering yokes. The flow valve is of simple design and provides a low cost component.
