LA INVENCION SE REFIERE A PROCESOS QUE EMPLEAN ADSORBENTES HETEROGENEOS PARA PURIFICACION DE OLEFINAS, COMO LAS PRODUCIDAS TIPICAMENTE POR CRAQUEO TERMICO DE CARGAS DE ALIMENTACION HIDROCARBONADAS. DICHO PROCEDIMIENTO CONSISTE EN HACER PASAR UN VAPOR DE OLEFINAS DE 2 A 8 ATOMOS DE CARBONO, QUE CONTENGAN IMPUREZAS ACETILENICAS CON CONTENIDO DE CARBONO IGUAL O SIMILAR Y, OPCIONALMENTE, GASES HIDROCARBONADOS SATURADOS, A TRAVES DE UN LECHO PARTICULADO DE ADSORBENTE QUE COMPRENDE PREDOMINANTEMENTE UN MATERIAL DE SOPORTE CON UN AREA SUPERFICIAL ELEVADA, SOBRE LA CUAL SE DISPERSA AL MENOS UN ELEMENTO METALICO. LA ADSORCION SE LLEVA A CABO EN UNA ATMOSFERA PRACTICAMENTE EXENTA DE DIHIDROGENO DENTRO DEL LECHO, LO CUAL PERMITE REALIZAR UNA ADSORCION SELECIVA Y REVERSIBLE Y/O UNA FORMACION DE COMPLEJOS DE LOS CONTAMINANTES ACETILENICOS CONTENIDOS EN EL ADSORBENTE Y PERMITE OBTENER ASI UN EFLUENTE PURIFICADO QUE CONTIENE MENOS DE UN NIVEL PREDETERMINADO DE IMPUREZAS ACETILENICAS. LA ADSORCION SELECTIVA Y REVERSIBLE Y/O LA FORMACION DE COMPLEJOS DE LAS IMPUREZAS ACETILENICAS CONTENIDAS CON EL ADSORBENTE, CONTINUA HASTA QUE LOS NIVELES DE IMPUREZAS ACETILENCIAS EN LA CORRIENTE EFLUENTE AUMENTAN HASTA UN NIVEL PREDETERMINADO. CONSECUENTEMENTE, EL LECHO DE ADSORBENTE RESULTANTE SE REGENERA EN PRESENCIA DE UN GAS REDUCTOR QUE CONTIENE DIHIDROGENO, PERMITIENDO LA LIBERACION DE LAS IMPUREZAS ACETILENICAS CONTENIDAS A PARTIR DEL ADSORBENTE.
