Abstract

The electrolyser removing the chlorine ion from sea water comprises a solar-powered generator of insoluble chlorides and sodium nitrate. A 1-litre tank (1) receives sea water from a reservoir (2) via a pump (3), ad 30 mlitre of nitric acid to form an electrolyte. EMBODIMENT - A float (4) controls the input into tank (1), which has a molybdenum electrode (5) and e.g. a silver electrode (6) connected to a 12 V 60 aampere battery (7) with solar powering. The electrolysis produces silver chloride, chlorine gas and sodium nitrate.
