Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing a furniture panel, with a material panel, the two panel surfaces of which are coated with a panel coating having a surface design and to whose at least one narrow surface at least one edge strip is attached as a narrow surface coating, wherein the edge strip is produced by coextrusion and has a central section and on both sides next to the central section two outer sections adjacent to the panel coatings, wherein the outer sections have an outer design that matches at least one surface design, wherein the central section has a central design that differs from the outer design.
- a material board is preferably a board made of a wood material, e.g. a chipboard, fiberboard or the like.
- the furniture board is made on the basis of such a material board, which can be used, for example, for the manufacture of kitchen furniture, living room furniture, office furniture or the like.
- the board surfaces of the material board e.g. wood material board
- a board coating i.e. a coating material. This can be a film, a varnish or even a decorative paper, which is attached to the board surface of the material board as a board coating.
- the two board coatings can have the same surface design or, alternatively, two different surface designs.
- edge strips which are attached to one or preferably several narrow surfaces of the material board as a narrow surface coating, are also referred to as edge bands or simply as edges. They are provided with "oversize” and attached to the respective narrow surface and then, using machining, they are adapted to the thickness of the material panel or furniture panel and, if necessary, profiling is carried out, e.g. rounding off the upper edges.
- the edge strip can be attached to the respective material panel in the conventional way using hot melt adhesive, for example.
- the edge strips can also be provided with a melt layer (i.e. functional layer) during production, which is then melted during processing using a suitable source (e.g. laser radiation, hot air, plasma, microwave or the like).
- An edge strip that has a central section and two outer sections is also referred to in practice as a so-called "3-in-1 edge” and is used in particular to create a multi-layered look for the furniture panel.
- the three strip-shaped sections usually have different designs (central design on the one hand and outer designs on the other).
- These designs can be formed by color and/or decoration, which in particular is the color and/or decoration of the surface of the central section or the outer sections.
- 3-in-1 edges are known, particularly in the form of so-called 3D edges, which have a transparent strip core and are provided with a color or decorative layer on the back.
- the transparent strip core can be made of (highly transparent) PMMA or based on PMMA, for example.
- the different designs of the middle section and the outer section i.e. the middle design and the outer designs
- the production of a furniture panel with such 3-in-1 edges based on the 3D edge technology is, for example, DE 20 2015 102 073 U1
- the focus is on the production of a furniture panel as a replica of a satin glass panel, which has a matt or super-matt surface on the one hand and a high-gloss edge strip on the other.
- compact panels are known from practice, which are referred to as compact panels.
- Such compact panels are made from a composite of different layers that are pressed together.
- Such compact panels are therefore characterized by a multi-layer structure, e.g. three-layer structure, which is visible on the narrow surfaces of the compact panel.
- a panel is known whose edge area is composed of multiple layers of individual strip-shaped elements arranged parallel to one another in a special construction.
- the EP 2 399 485 A1 describes a furniture panel in which the narrow sides are each covered with two edge strips arranged next to each other, creating the impression of a two-layer panel.
- the invention is based on the technical problem of producing a furniture panel which is characterized by a high-quality appearance while having a simple and cost-effective construction on the basis of a material panel, in particular chipboard, fiberboard or the like.
- the invention teaches a method for producing a furniture panel with the features of claim 1.
- a generic furniture panel of the type described above which is equipped with a 3-in-1 edge, it is provided that the middle section and also the outer sections of the edge strip consist of colored, non-transparent plastic and that the outer sections (of the mounted edge strip) each have a width of less than 3 mm.
- the invention is based on the knowledge that a furniture panel based on a material panel can be produced in a simple manner by means of a targeted construction and design of a 3-in-1 edge strip, which optically simulates a (multi-layer) compact panel.
- a 3-in-1 edge is used, which is not designed as a 3D edge and therefore not with a transparent strip core, but in which preferably both the middle section and the outer sections are made of colored, non-transparent plastic, so that the Designs (color and/or decor) in the area of the narrow surface of the furniture panel are formed by the surface color and/or the surface decor of the edge strip or the outer sections and the middle section of the edge strip.
- the 3D edges used in practice are excellent for achieving certain optical effects. However, such 3D edges are less suitable for producing a furniture panel with a compact panel look.
- edge strip used to create the multi-layer look of a conventional compact panel is provided with outer sections that have a very small width of less than 3 mm. This is because the outer layers of compact panels usually consist of relatively thin layers, so that such a compact panel can be excellently reproduced with the edge strip according to the invention.
- the thickness of the middle section is, for example, 13 mm to 16 mm, preferably 14 mm to 15 mm, and the width of the two outer sections is, for example, 2 mm to 2.5 mm each.
- the invention is also suitable for producing furniture panels with a greater thickness, so that the middle section preferably has a width of at least 10 mm, e.g. 10 mm to 30 mm.
- a furniture panel can be produced on the basis of a wood-based panel (e.g. fiberboard or chipboard) that simulates a compact panel with a central real wood look and colored, e.g. single-colored coatings on both sides.
- a wood-based panel e.g. fiberboard or chipboard
- an edge strip whose center section is provided with a decorative print or a decorative coating as the center design, preferably in a wood look, i.e. with a wood grain.
- the two outer sections are preferably provided with a single-colored outer design, which is formed e.g. from the colored or solid-colored plastic from which the outer sections are made, i.e. without additional coating or printing.
- the center section is also made from a colored, non-transparent plastic, but during production this center section is printed with a wood decor, e.g. to simulate a wood look, with the center section preferably being colored in a color that corresponds to the wood decor or is very close to it, e.g. brown or beige.
- a wood decor e.g. to simulate a wood look
- the center section preferably being colored in a color that corresponds to the wood decor or is very close to it, e.g. brown or beige.
- the outer sections are designed without additional coating or printing, since the outer design is formed by the colored or solid-colored plastic. Nevertheless, it is possible for the outer sections (and possibly also the middle section) to be covered with a transparent layer, e.g. with a transparent varnish.
- an edge strip whose middle section is not provided with a decorative print, but in which the outer design (i.e. the visual impression of the outer section) is formed by the surface of the colored plastic of the outer section.
- Multi-layer structures can also be simulated in this way, because in this case the invention proposes that the middle section is made of a plastic that has a different color than the plastic of the outer sections. For example, compact panels with a white-gray-white multi-layer structure can be simulated in this way.
- the outer sections have the same design as at least one of the surface designs of the furniture panel or its panel coating, because this ensures that the outer sections on the one hand and the surface design of the panel coating on the other have a uniform appearance, so that the impression of a multi-layer structure is created.
- the panel coating is (also) provided with a single-coloured surface design, at least if the outer sections have a single-coloured design (external design).
- the middle section it is also possible for the middle section to be designed with a single-coloured centre design, e.g. dyed in a single colour throughout, and for the outer sections to be provided with a decorative print or a decorative coating. It is also possible for both the middle section and the outer sections to be designed in a single colour, e.g. dyed in a single colour throughout, in which case it is advantageous if the middle section is designed with a different single-coloured centre design than the outer sections.
- both the outer section and the central section is also provided with (each) a decorative print or a decorative coating, wherein it is expedient if the central section is provided with a different decorative print or a different decorative coating than the outer sections or if the decoration in the area of the central section differs from the decoration in the area of the outer sections.
- the edge strip is manufactured by coextrusion, i.e. the three adjacent sections are manufactured by coextrusion, with plastics with different colors preferably being used for the middle section on the one hand and the two outer sections on the other.
- Thermoplastics are always used, e.g. ABS, PVC or PP.
- the invention optionally proposes that the middle section be separated from the two outer sections in the area of the strip surface by a respective depression or groove (extending along the longitudinal direction of the edge strip).
- a depression/groove can, for example, have a depth of less than 0.5 mm, preferably less than 0.2 mm (e.g. less than 0.1 mm) and/or a width on the surface of less than 0.5 mm, preferably less than 0.2 mm (e.g. less than 0.1 mm).
- the focus of the invention is the simulation of a compact plate, so that the sections with different surface designs should directly border one another or at least come as close as possible. For manufacturing reasons, however, it may be expedient to provide the depressions described, e.g.
- a design with depressions is suitable. This is particularly the case if at least one of the sections, e.g. the middle section, is printed. If no printing is used at all and the different surface designs of the edge strip are created solely by the different coloring of the sections, it may be possible to dispense with recesses between the areas, so that in this case the edge strip is characterized by a uniform, continuous, flush surface.
- the two panel coatings can be provided with an identical surface design, in which case the outer sections of the edge strip have an external design that matches both surface designs.
- the invention can also be implemented for panels or furniture panels in which the two panel coatings have a different surface design.
- furniture panels are known that are provided with a surface coating with the surface design (e.g. a decor or a color) only on the visible side, while the back is only coated with a so-called counter-coat.
- the outer sections of the edge strip have an external design that matches the (one-sided) surface design of the panel coating, i.e. the outer sections of the edge strip are adapted to the surface design of the visible side of the furniture panel.
- a furniture panel of the type described above is provided with a handle insert which is inserted into a recess in the material panel made in a panel surface. Consequently, a furniture panel is provided which can be used, for example, as a furniture door for a cupboard, e.g. a kitchen cupboard or the like, and in which an operating handle for opening the door is integrated directly into the furniture panel, in the area of the panel surface.
- a recess is made in the furniture panel, into which a (prefabricated) handle insert is inserted and fastened, e.g. glued.
- a handle insert is pot-shaped, i.e.
- the handle insert has a handle base and an inner handle edge that is preferably oriented perpendicularly to it.
- the handle insert optionally has a handle collar that is preferably oriented parallel to the handle base and perpendicular to the inner handle edge and that overlaps the panel coating surrounding the recess in the material panel. The distance between the handle base and the handle collar therefore corresponds to the depth of the recess made in the material panel.
- the handle base (on the side visible from the outside) has a base design that matches the center design (i.e. the color and/or the decor of the center section) of the edge strip.
- the color and/or decor of the handle base therefore correspond to the color and/or decor of the center section of the edge strip.
- the invention is based on the knowledge that in a conventional compact panel, when a recess for a handle is made through the surface layers, the central layer, which can consist of real wood, for example, is usually visible. If the visual impression of such a compact panel is to be simulated according to the invention, then the use of the handle insert according to the invention ensures that in the area of the handle insert the impression is created that the inner wood structure of the compact panel is visible, which can also be provided in the area of the 3-in-1 edge strip according to the invention. This principle can be further optimized by the inner edge of the handle and/or the optionally provided handle collar in turn having a design (i.e.
- handle edge design or handle collar design that matches the surface design of the panel surface/visible side (in which the handle is inserted) and consequently also the design of the outer sections of the edge strip (external design). match. If a single-colored panel surface is therefore realized in a certain color, not only are the outer sections of the edge strip preferably colored in this color, but at least the handle collar is also preferably designed in this color.
- the inner edge of the handle can be designed in the design of the middle section or alternatively in the design of the outer section, depending on which layered effect is to be achieved. It is also advantageous if the handle insert is manufactured as a single-piece plastic component, which can initially be made entirely from single-colored plastic, for example, in the color that corresponds to the panel surface.
- this single-colored handle insert can then be provided with a corresponding decorative layer, for example, or printed with a decoration that is adapted to the middle area of the edge strip in the manner described.
- the handle insert is not (completely) made of plastic, but is made entirely or at least partially from metal.
- the handle insert is preferably used in combination with the furniture panel, where the middle section and also the outer sections are made of colored, non-transparent plastic and where the outer sections each have a width of less than 3 mm.
- edge strip which is produced by coextrusion, is therefore also protected independently, whereby it is particularly important that a 3-in-1 edge strip is used, the outer sections of which have a different design than the middle section, whereby both the middle section and the outer sections are made of coloured, non-transparent plastic, whereby the outer sections (in the not yet assembled state) have a width of less than 6 mm, preferably less than 5 mm.
- an edge strip is initially produced with excess manufactured and, after being attached to the material plate, is adapted to the thickness of the (coated) material plate by machining. According to the invention, the edge strip is therefore reduced during machining in such a way that an edge strip is created in the area of the finished furniture plate, the outer sections of which each have a width of less than 3 mm.
- the edge strip can be provided with an adhesion promoter on its back, i.e. on the side facing the narrow surface of the furniture panel when assembled, and can be attached to the narrow surface of the material panel with a hot melt adhesive during processing.
- an edge strip is provided which is provided with a melt layer (functional layer) on its rear side facing the narrow surface.
- a melt layer can then be melted during processing using a source (e.g. laser, hot air, plasma, microwave).
- a source e.g. laser, hot air, plasma, microwave.
- Such a 3-in-1 edge strip with a functional layer on the rear side can, for example, be produced entirely by coextrusion, whereby not only the two different plastics or differently colored plastics of the middle section and outer section of the edge strip, but also two differently colored materials for the functional layer are coextruded.
- the figures show a furniture panel 1 which is manufactured on the basis of a material panel 2 which is designed as a wood-based panel (in particular chipboard or fiberboard).
- the two panel surfaces of this material panel 2 are each provided with a panel coating 4 which, for example, each has an (identical) surface design OG.
- Surface design OG here means the color and/or decoration of this panel coating 4.
- the panel coating 4 is usually a very thin film, varnish or decorative paper.
- the narrow surfaces of the material panel 2 are covered with edge strips 5 which are attached to the material panel 2 and serve as a narrow surface coating or narrow surface cladding. Edge strips 5 are used which have a 3-in-1 structure to create a multi-layer appearance of the furniture panel.
- the edge strip has a central section 6 running along the longitudinal direction L of the strip and two outer sections 7 on both sides of the central section, which are adjacent to the panel coatings 4 and run along the longitudinal direction L of the strip.
- the two outer sections each have an external design AG, i.e. colour and/or decor, which matches the surface design OG of the panel coating 4.
- the central section 6 has a Exterior design AG has a different central design MG (i.e. color and/or decor).
- This design of the edge strip 5 and the adaptation to the surface design OG of the panel coating 4 simulates a multi-layer compact panel on the basis of a wood-based panel 2, because the two outer sections 7, which are adapted to the panel coatings 4 in terms of their decor and/or color design and merge into them, create a smooth transition between the panel coating 4 and the outer sections of the edge strip, so that the impression of a multi-layer panel is created, which consists of a middle layer - based on the central section of the edge strip - and two outer cover layers - based on the two outer sections 7 of the edge strip including panel coatings 4.
- the two outer sections 7 each have a width B1 that is less than 3 mm, e.g. 2 mm to 2.5 mm. In the Fig.
- a furniture panel with a thickness of 19 mm is shown, so that the middle section has a width B2 of e.g. 14 mm to 15 mm.
- the thickness D of the edge strip is 1 mm to 3 mm, e.g. 1 mm to 1.5 mm.
- Fig. 1 It is indicated by way of example that the panel coating 4 and also the outer sections 7 have a single-coloured surface design OG and outer design AG respectively.
- the middle section 6 has a middle design MG in a wood look, i.e. a wood decor with wood grain, so that a compact panel with a real wood core and single-coloured cover layers on both sides is simulated.
- the edge strip 5 is made by coextrusion from colored, non-transparent plastics, i.e. both the middle section 6 and the outer sections 7 consist of colored, non-transparent plastics, with the outer sections 7 on the one hand and the middle section 6 on the other hand, preferably made of differently colored plastics.
- the middle section which is provided with a wood decor, can consist of a brown colored plastic, for example, while the two outer sections 7 consist of a white or gray plastic, for example.
- the surface design of the outer sections i.e. the outer design AG, is formed directly from the surface of the colored plastic of the outer sections 7 in the exemplary embodiment shown.
- the surface design of the middle section, i.e. the middle design MG is created by a decorative print 8 of the colored plastic, e.g. by a decorative print with a wood look.
- Fig. 2 shows the edge strip 5 according to the invention, which is produced in the manner described by coextrusion with the middle section 6 and the two outer sections 7.
- the Fig. 2 the edge strip in its "manufacturing state", i.e. before the edge strip 5 is mounted on the material plate 2. This is because such an edge strip is manufactured with an oversize and attached to the material plate 2.
- the edge strip 5 is adjusted to the thickness of the material plate 2 by machining and, as a rule, the edge areas of the edge strip 5 are also profiled.
- Fig. 2 The not yet mounted edge strip in its original width is shown in Fig. 3 the edge strip 5 attached to the material plate 2 and reworked is shown so that Fig. 3 the furniture panel after Fig. 1 in a cross-section.
- the edge strip according to Fig. 2 has, before assembly on the furniture panel, outer sections 7 with a width A1 of less than 6 mm each, preferably less than 5 mm.
- the edge strip 5 In the assembled state (according to Fig. 3 ), the edge strip 5 has outer sections 7 with a width B1 of less than 3 mm.
- the width B2 of the middle section 6 does not change during processing.
- Fig. 2 indicated that the edge strip in the middle section 6 is provided with the decorative print 8, which forms the middle design MG.
- Fig. 2 It can be seen that the central section 6 is separated from the two outer sections 7 in the area of the strip surface by a recess 9 extending along the longitudinal direction L of the edge strip 5, wherein these recesses 9 preferably have a depth T of e.g. less than 0.2 mm and/or a width X on the surface of e.g. less than 0.2 mm.
- These recesses 9 are particularly advantageous for manufacturing reasons when the central section 6 is provided with a decorative print 8, because with the help of the grooves 9 the decorative print 8 can be separated perfectly from the outer sections 7.
- Fig. 4 is a modified version of the furniture panel according to Fig. 1 It is a furniture panel 1 which is used, for example, as a furniture door and is provided with a handle for operating the door.
- the furniture panel 1 is equipped with a handle insert 11.
- a recess is made in the surface of the material plate 2, e.g. by machining.
- a handle insert 11 is inserted into this recess.
- This handle insert has a handle base 12, an inner handle edge 13 and, in the embodiment, a handle collar 14, whereby the handle collar 14 overlaps the plate coating 4 of the furniture plate 1.
- the handle base 12 (on the visible side) has a base design BG that matches the design of the middle section 6 and consequently the middle design MG. Since the furniture plate 1 according to Fig. 4 in the area of the middle section 6 of the edge strip 5 has a wood look, the Handle base 12 is designed with a base design BG in wood look. This simulates a compact panel based on a central real wood panel with a handle, because it creates the impression that the area of real wood has been exposed and is therefore visible during the installation of a handle in a real compact panel.
- the handle insert 11, which is essential to the invention, is therefore particularly important in connection with the described edge strip 5, because in this way a real compact panel with a handle is simulated on the basis of a material panel 2.
- FIG. 4 A pot-shaped handle insert 11 with a round geometry is shown as an example. However, the principle can also be implemented with other geometries, e.g. a handle insert with a rectangular geometry.
- edge strip 5 is provided with an adhesion promoter layer 15 on the back. This allows the edge strip 5 to be attached to the material plate 2 or its narrow surface using conventional hot melt adhesives. However, it is also possible to equip the edge strip 5 with a functional layer on the back for activation with laser radiation, microwave radiation, plasma radiation or hot air.
- the figures only show embodiments in which, for example, the two surfaces are identically designed or are equipped with an identical surface design.
- the invention shown as an example in the figures can be implemented in the same way with a panel that only has a one-sided panel coating with a surface design (e.g. decor/color or the like), so that this is designed as the visible side, while the back is provided with a different surface coating or other surface design, e.g. only with a simple counter-layer material.
- a surface design e.g. decor/color or the like
