Da die Greiferbänder 1 und somit auch der Gebergreifer 2 und der Nehmergreifer 3 sich synchron mit der Hauptantriebswelle der Webmaschine bewegen, wird das Öffnen auf eine vorgegebene Winkelposition der Hauptwelle ausgelegt. Hierzu kann an der Hauptwelle in nicht näher dargestellter Weise ein Winkelgeber angebracht werden, der mit der Steuereinheit verbunden ist. Da die Greiferbänder 1 und somit auch deren Antriebsräder 6 synchron mit der Hauptwelle laufen, ist es auch möglich, die Position der Greifer 2, 3 in Relation zu der Winkelposition der Hauptwelle mittels Winkelgebern 35 zu erfassen, die an den Antriebsrädern 6 angeordnet und an die Steuereinheit 14 angeschlossen sind.
