Die Erfindung umfaßt eine Verfahrensweise, bei der zunächst ein doppeltlanger Filterstopfen zentral zwischen zwei beabstandete Tabakstäbe unter Freilassung jeweils einer Lücke zu den benachbarten Tabakstäben eingefügt wird, in die nachträglich paarweise Einzelfilterstopfen eingelegt werden. Eine bevorzugte erfindungsgemäße Variante besteht hingegen darin, daß zunächst die Paare von Einzelfilterstopfen und anschließend die doppeltlangen Filterstopfen zwischen die Tabakstäbe eingefügt werden, wobei nach einem weiteren Vorschlag die Einzelfilterstopfen in einer an die Tabakstäbe angrenzenden Lage und die doppeltlangen Filterstopfen in eine zentrale Lücke zwischen den Einzelfilterstopfen eingefügt werden.
