A device (20) for retaining rod-like articles (23) on a flat pallet (12) provided with supporting boards (9, 10), consisting of a retention system (22) and a fastening structure (21) comprising a lower strap (3) and an upper strap (4) which are firmly and at a certain distance connected with each other by a connecting member (5) in such a way that a gap (6) is formed between the straps (3) and (4) which gap is at least equal to or at most 5 per cent greater than the thickness of the supporting boards (9, 10) of the pallet (12), characterised in that one axis (14) of the connecting member (5) is located at a distance (31) from the outer end (30) of an outer tensioning member (2) of the fastening structure (21), such distance being equal to the width of the outer supporting board (9) plus one-half of the gap (11) between the outer and the inner supporting boards (9, 10).
  2. A device as claimed in Claim 1 characterised in that the retention system (22) consists of a pillar (7) arranged vertically on the upper strap (4) at the end (30) thereof.
  3. A device as claimed in Claim 2 characterised in that the pillar (7) is supported against the upper strap (4) by means of an angle post (8) forming a space (15) therebetween which is at least 1.5 times larger than the cross-section of the pillar (7).
  4. A device as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 3 characterised in that a ring (16) is attached to the upper end (25) of the pillar (7) in such a way that the plane of the material axis of the ring (16) is arranged perpendicular to the axis of the pillar (7).
  5. A device as claimed in Claim 1 characterised in that the device (20) is inserted into a gap (11) between the first and the second supporting board (9 and 10) of the pallet (12) in such a way that it is swivellable through an angle of a total of 90 degrees in the direction of an arrow (29) until the upper strap (4) is located above the supporting boards (9 and 10) and the lower strap (3) below the same.
