    c) the third chamber (6) next the mouth and adjoining the middle chamber (4), contains a further filter section permeable to air;
    d) all three chambers (2, 4, 6) being surrounded by two common sheaths (8) which in themselves are airtight yet are provided at intervals with ventilation holes and of which one also encloses the adjoining region of the strand (10) of tobacco;
    characterized in that
    e) the filter section arranged in the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco exhibits a coaxial core (12) of cellulose acetate or other rottable fibres permeable to the main flow of smoke and surrounded by a jacket (14) of cellulose acetate fibres or other rottable material and nearly impermeable to the main flow of smoke;
    f) the second chamber (4) is 95% filled with adorbent, usefully consisting of activated carbon of pore volume from 0.7 to 0.8 cm3/g, pore radius from 0.9 to 1 nm and grain size distribution corresponding with a screen mesh width in the range from 177 µm to 500 µm; and
    g) the build-up of the third chamber (6) is the same as that of the first chamber (2).
  2. A ventilated filtertip cigarette having a triple or three-chamber filter in which
    a) the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco contains a filter section permeable to air;
    b) the adjoining second chamber (4) is a middle chamber filled with an adsorbent; and
    c) the third chamber (6) next the mouth and adjoining the middle chamber (4), contains a further filter section permeable to air;
    d) all three chambers (2, 4, 6) being surrounded by two common sheaths (8) which in themselves are airtight yet are provided at intervals with ventilation holes and of which one also encloses the adjoining region of the strand (10) of tobacco;
    characterized in that
    e) the filter section arranged in the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco exhibits a coaxial core (12) of cellulose acetate or other rottable fibres permeable to the main flow of smoke and surrounded by a jacket (14) of cellulose acetate fibres or other rottable material and nearly impermeable to the main flow of smoke;
    f) the second chamber (4) is 95% filled with adsorbent, usefully consisting of activated carbon of pore volume from 0.7 to 0.8 cm3/g, pore radius from 0.9 to 1 nm and grain size distribution corresponding with a screen mesh width in the range from 177 µm to 500 µm; and
    g) the third chamber (6) exhibits a core (34) of cellulose acetate fibres or other rottable material, surrounded by a jacket (32) of cellulose acetate or other rottable fibres and permeable to the main flow of smoke.
  3. A ventilated filtertip cigarette having a triple or three-chamber filter in which
    a) the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco contains a filter section permeable to air;
    b) the adjoining second chamber (4) is a middle chamber filled with an adsorbent; and
    c) the third chamber (6) next the mouth and adjoining the middle chamber (4), contains a further filter section permeable to air;
    d) all three chambers (2, 4, 6) being surrounded by two common sheaths (8) which in themselves are airtight yet are provided at intervals with ventilation holes and of which one also encloses the adjoining region of the strand (10) of tobacco;
    characterized in that
    e) the filter section arranged in the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco exhibits a coaxial core (12) of cellulose acetate or other rottable fibres permeable to the main flow of smoke and surrounded by a jacket (14) of cellulose acetate fibres or other rottable material and nearly impermeable to the main flow of smoke;
    f) the second chamber (4) is 95% filled with adsorbent, usefully consisting of activated carbon of pore volume from 0.7 to 0.8 cm3/g, pore radius from 0.9 to 1 nm and grain size distribution corresponding with a screen mesh width in the range from 177 µm to 500 µm; and
    g) the third chamber (6) exhibits as filter element a core (22) of rottable cellulose acetate fibres of small overall titer which fill the chamber wholly.
  4. A ventilated filtertip cigarette having a triple or three-chamber filter in which
    a) the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco contains a filter section permeable to air;
    b) the adjoining second chamber (4) is a middle chamber filled with an adsorbent; and
    c) the third chamber (6) next the mouth and adjoining the middle chamber (4), contains a further filter section permeable to air;
    d) all three chambers (2, 4, 6) being surrounded by two common sheaths (8) which in themselves are airtight yet are provided at intervals with ventilation holes and of which one also encloses the adjoining region of the strand (10) of tobacco;
    characterized in that
    e) the filter section arranged in the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco has a cylindrical body (14') of nearly impermeable tightly compressed rottable cellulose acetate fibres, which completely fills the first chamber (2) and in which one or more continuous tubes (16) or channels (16') are provided;
    f) the second chamber (4) is 95% filled with adsorbent, usefully consisting of activated carbon of pore volume from 0.7 to 0.8 cm3/g, pore radius from 0.9 to 1 nm and grain size distribution corresponding with a screen mesh width in the range from 177 µm to 500 µm; and
    g) the third chamber (6) exhibits a coaxial core (12) of cellulose acetate or other rottable fibres permeable to the main flow of smoke and surrounded by a jacket (14) of cellulose acetate fibres or other rottable material and nearly impermeable to the main flow of smoke.
  5. A ventilated filtertip cigarette having a triple or three-chamber filter in which
    a) the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco contains a filter section permeable to air;
    b) the adjoining second chamber (4) is a middle chamber filled with an adsorbent; and
    c) the third chamber (6) next the mouth and adjoining the middle chamber (4), contains a further filter section permeable to air;
    d) all three chambers (2, 4, 6) being surrounded by two common sheaths (8) which in themselves are airtight yet are provided at intervals with ventilation holes and of which one also encloses the adjoining region of the strand (10) of tobacco;
    characterized in that
    e) the filter section arranged in the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco has a cylindrical body (14') of nearly impermeable tightly compressed rottable cellulose acetate fibres, which completely fills the first chamber (2) and in which one or more continuous tubes (16) or channels (16') are provided;
    f) the second chamber (4) is 95% filled with adsorbent, usefully consisting of activated carbon of pore volume from 0.7 to 0.8 cm3/g, pore radius from 0.9 to 1 nm and grain size distribution corresponding with a screen mesh width in the range from 177 µm to 500 µm; and
    g) the third chamber (6) exhibits a core (44) of cellulose acetate fibres or other rottable material, surrounded by a jacket (42) of cellulose acetate or other rottable fibres and permeable to the main flow of smoke.
  6. A ventilated filtertip cigarette having a triple or three-chamber filter in which
    a) the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco contains a filter section permeable to air;
    b) the adjoining second chamber (4) is a middle chamber filled with an adsorbent; and
    c) the third chamber (6) next the mouth and adjoining the middle chamber (4), contains a further filter section permeable to air;
    d) all three chambers (2, 4, 6) being surrounded by two common sheaths (8) which in themselves are airtight yet are provided at intervals with ventilation holes and of which one also encloses the adjoining region of the strand (10) of tobacco;
    characterized in that
    e) the filter section arranged in the first chamber (2) next the strand of tobacco has a cylindrical body (14') of nearly impermeable tightly compressed rottable cellulose acetate fibres, which completely fills the first chamber (2) and in which one or more continuous tubes (16) or channels (16') are provided:
    f) the second chamber (4) is 95% filled with adsorbent, usefully consisting of activated carbon of pore volume from 0.7 to 0.8 cm3/g, pore radius from 0.9 to 1 nm and grain size distribution corresponding with a screen mesh width in the range from 177 µm to 500 µm; and
    g) the third chamber (6) exhibits a core (14') impermeable to air, into the outer periphery of which a number of continuous channels (16') are moulded.
  7. A cigarette as in Claim 4 or 6, characterized in that
       the tube (16) is arranged in the centre of the first chamber (2).
  8. A cigarette as in Claim 5, characterized in that
       a number of tubes (16') are arranged in the region of the centre of the first chamber (2).
  9. A cigarette as in Claim 6, characterized in that
       the peripheral channels (16') extend in a straight line in the direction longitudinal to the third chamber (6).
  10. A cigarette as in Claim 6, characterized in that
       the peripheral channels (16') run helically in the direction longitudinal to the third chamber (6).
  11. A cigarette as In Claim 2 or 5, characterized in that
       the filter material (32, 42) surrounding the core (34, 44) of the third chamber (6), which is impermeable to air, is formed from corrugated foil of cellulose acetate or other rottable material.
