Abstract

The invention provides a display packaging for glasses and similar articles, foldable flat and made of a single strip of material. This strip of material is divided into sections intended to form the vertical and horizontal sides of the frame as well as vertical partitions, the number of which depends on the number of articles placed in a line, each article in the line being separated from the next by a wall. Figure 1 shows the case of packaging three items in a row. In this case, the strip consists of sections 2 to 10 joined by the fold lines (11a to 11h), the sections 3 and 5 being intended to form the vertical partitions. Locking tabs (14) are housed in notches (16) of the lower and upper ends of the vertical partitions so as to keep the assembly deployed.

Description

The invention provides a display packaging for articles such as glasses and goblets, the articles being arranged in a line, foldable flat.

There are known in the art a large number of packages produced from a blank of cardboard or similar material, having fold lines, cutouts and various means intended to bring the blank into volume, thanks to the formation of flaps, tabs, slots and notches, by gluing or stapling.

Glasses, cups and the like are generally sold in display packaging consisting of boxes having a bottom, two long sides and two short sides, the glasses being held in place by flaps and tabs. A cover with or without a transparent window can also be provided.

We tried to develop a completely transparent packaging, that is to say having no bottom and, in this case, it is necessary to ensure the rigidity of the assembly to provide partitions and stiffening between the different articles. It is of course possible to add these partitions only once the packaging frame has been formed, but this requires additional handling and does not allow automatic manufacture.

The invention provides a display packaging, foldable flat, consisting of a strip of material which, by folding and gluing, constitutes a packaging frame surrounding the articles arranged in line, comprising a partition between each article in line; locking tabs or tabs adjoining the strip block the partition (s) so as to keep them in the vertical position when the packaging is deployed.

In the case where the packaging is intended for articles arranged in two rows, at least one of the vertical sides and the vertical partitions are cut to form a tongue which, by folding inside the frame, constitutes a housing for the part bottom of the article.

Figure 1 shows in perspective and schematically a first embodiment of a package according to the invention. This packaging is intended for the presentation of three articles arranged online. It consists of a cardboard or similar blank, generally rectangular in shape. If we consider this blank starting from the end 1 located on the left in Figure 3a, it consists of the following elements separated by fold lines:

• - a gluing flap 2, a vertical partition 3, a section 4 doubling the long side 8, a vertical partition 5, a section 6 for the other large side of the frame, a small side 7 of the frame, a large side 8 of the frame, a small side 9 of the frame and a section 10 which, with the section 6, ends the second long side of the frame. These different elements are separated by fold lines 11a to 11h. The line lli is not really a fold line but a line for delimiting the glue location.

The elements 8 and 10 of generally rectangular shape each carry four locking tabs projecting from each side of the section (2 tabs on each side). These tabs are centered on the line corresponding to the subsequent location of the vertical partitions and consist of a main part 14a separated from an end part 14b by a fold line 14c.

The sections 7 and 9 may be rectangular but generally have two concave sides, these concave sides constituting the vertical edges of the short sides of the frame, when this frame is deployed, so as to allow better viewing of the article contained in the frame and at lighten the appearance of the packaging. The edges of the partitions which will subsequently be in the vertical position are also concave for the same reasons. The upper and lower ends of the vertical partitions have a rounded part 15 ending in a groove 16 in which the end 14b of the tongue 14 will be housed when the latter is folded along the fold line 14c and along the fold line 17 which joins it to the blank.

Figures 3a to 3d illustrate the folding and gluing of the blank to obtain the deployed frame. The solid line drawing of FIG. 3a shows the rectangular blank flat, the fold lines 11 being represented by slight indentations; the dashed lines sketch the beginning of the blank folding. For this purpose, the folding is started on the folding lines llb, lle and llg, the parts 2 and 3 being brought under the parts 4, 5, and 6, while these as well as the parts 9 and 10 pivot towards the high along the fold lines and 11g. Glue dots are deposited on the section 2, on the section 8, and on the strip delimited by the line 11i and the end 12 of the blank, and are designated respectively by 13a, 13c and 3b on the Figure 3b. The folding is continued by first bringing the sections 4, 5 and 6 on which the section ₂ has been folded, against the section 8 and the sections 9 and 10 are folded over the whole to form the flat assembly shown in the figure. 3c.

When the frame is deployed, the blank folds along the lines lla, 1-lc, 1-ld, llf and llh while the other sections straighten with respect to the folding already carried out along the lines llb, 11b and 11g. The frame thus obtained is locked by folding the tabs 14 around their fold line 17 and by introducing their end portion 14b into the notch 16 of the partitions 3 and 5. This locking of the frame can obviously be carried out after introduction of the articles that it is intended to pack.

It will be noted in FIG. 1 that the tongue 14 has curved lateral sides so as to come to bear against the cylindrical wall of the lower part of a cup or so as to rest above the foot of a stemmed glass .

Figure 4 is a side view of a package according to the present invention, intended for two articles side by side. This frame then has only one partition and the person skilled in the art will easily determine its folding mode on examining FIG. 4 and FIGS. 3a to 3d.

In practice, we will often use the frame shown in Figure 1 by inverting it, so that the bonding of the end 12 of the section 10 is on the lower side of the frame and not on the upper side as shown in the figure 2.

Figures 5, 6 and 7 show another embodiment of the invention intended for the packaging of six articles united in two rows of three objects. The reference numbers identical to those used previously denote the same elements.

Figure 5 is a top view of a frame according to these two variants, once folded and glued but still flat. The section 8 comprises four tongues 14 joined to the section 8 via the fold line 17. Also shown in this figure is the fold line llf between the section 8 and section 7 which will constitute one of the vertical sides of the frame, while the fold lines lle and 11 ₂ constitute the two ends of the frame folded flat. The two free sides of the section 7 are curved to lighten the external appearance of the frame and allow a better view of the elements which it encloses. A cutout 20 defines a tongue 21 which is attached to the section 7 only by the fold line 22 of length x. The shape of the cutout 20, and therefore of the tongue 21, is such that the tongue 21 is folded inside the frame to form a housing for the packaged articles. In the case shown in Figures 5 and 6, the tongue 21 has two notches in the form of semicircles, the diameter of which corresponds to the diameter of the stem of the stemware which it is desired to pack in the frame. The end of the tongue opposite the fold line is narrowed so as to facilitate its engagement in the notch of the partition which follows it or so as to facilitate its sticking against the opposite wall.

Figure 6 shows the frame of Figure 5, once deployed. We see that the frame has two vertical sides 7 and 9, of which only one (the side 7) is cut and has the tongue 21. The vertical partitions 3 and 5 are similarly cut to form the tongues 21a and 21b. The end portions of the tongues 21 and 21a pass through the openings in the partitions 5 and 3 respectively and are bonded respectively to the tongue 21a and to the tongue 21b. The end of the tongue 21b is folded back and glued to the wall 9. As in the case of FIG. 1, the tongues 14 are folded over and the part 14b of each tongue is housed in the notch 16 of the partitions 3 and 5.

The frame of Figure 6 is shown in the position of use, that is to say the reverse position of the position shown for the frame of Figure 1. We see that the upper section 8 has three cutouts including the flaps come inside the frame to prevent the drinkers of the contained articles from colliding. These flaps 23 are joined to the section 8 by fold lines 24 along of their rectilinear parts.

The method of folding and gluing this frame is identical to that used for the frame shown in Figures 1 to 3.

It is obvious that the frame of FIG. 6 can be modified so that the tongues 21, 21a and 21b allow cups to be placed there and not stemware. Similarly, a cut 20 could be made in the wall 9, opposite that of the wall 7, and the tongue 21b could then come from the cut of the wall 9 with removal of the tongue from the partition 3; similarly, provision could be made for a cutout in the wall 9 by eliminating the resulting tongue.

Figure 8 is a top view similar to that of Figure 5 but showing a variant of the display package of the invention for packaging four cups. In this case the cutout 20 has the shape allowing to accommodate goblets, and not stemware, and the front part of the tongue 21 is slightly narrowed so as to be stuck on the part of the tongue 21a cut out in the intermediate partition, the rounded lower end 15 is seen in FIG. 8. The meeting of the two ends of the rectangular blank being done in this particular case at the level of the central partition, the lower tabs 14 are in two pieces at the two ends of the blank and coming supperpose when mounting the frame. It is obvious that variants can be made to the frames as described above, in particular as regards the shape of the cutouts, the shape of the vertical sides and vertical partitions, the shape of the tongues and the notches with which they cooperate. for locking the frame. The frames according to the present invention have the following advantages. They are made from a single rectangular blank by cutting, folding and gluing only. Manufacturing can therefore be done automatically on so-called universal machines. The packages obtained flat are stored flat but their shaping is instantaneous. They can be filled by hand but also by machine due easy access to each location. Once they have been filled, the locking tabs are put in place in a very simple manner, but it is always possible to remove and put back the articles by unlocking the tabs without damaging the packaging frame.

The different types of packaging frames are easily adaptable to the different items you want to put in, and some of them can be used for all types of items, whether they are stemware or goblets cylindrical. This is the case for example of the frames of FIGS. 1 and 4.

All the articles contained in the packaging are clearly visible and because there is no background, they gain in brightness.

In order to improve safety during transport, it is obviously possible to add one or more banding or belts to better keep the items in place.

The frame is available in different materials suitable for cutting, folding and gluing, as well as for indicating by various means (labeling, printing, etc.) the different terms that you wish to affix on the packaging.

Display packaging for articles such as glasses and goblets, the articles being arranged in one or more rows, foldable flat and made of a strip of material which, by folding and gluing, constitutes a packaging frame, characterized in that the strip is folded so as to come to form a partition (3,5) between each line item and that locking tabs (14) adjoining the strip block the partition (s), so as to keep them in vertical position when the packaging is deployed. 2. Display packaging according to claim 3, characterized in that the upper part (8) of the frame has cutouts constituting tongues (24) which, by folding inside the frame, are inserted between the rims of the articles .
