Abstract

The package is formed from a blank comprising a base (1) with a rectangular or octagonal shape. Two rectangular panels (2) are attached to parallel sides of the base section by fold lines. They have identical dimensions and form the parallel side walls of the package. Two rectangular bands (3) are hinged to the rectangular panels through fold lines. Two tabs (5) are attached to the other two sides of the base.

CONTAINING IN SEMI-RIGID MATERIAL FOR

  PACKAGING OF VARIOUS OBJECTS AND FLAN FOR ITS

PRODUCTION.

  The present invention relates to a container made of a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated cardboard for the packaging of various objects. The invention also relates to a blank made of a semi-rigid material,

  pre-cut and pushed back, for the realization of this container.

  EP-A-0 557 172 discloses a precut and repressed blank for the production of a box with polygonal cross section, this blank comprising a series of at least four flaps connected to each other by parallel fold lines and provided lateral flaps connected respectively to said flaps by fold lines perpendicular to the previous ones, the four flaps comprising a first flap intended to form the bottom of the box and having cut corners on each side and two other flaps connected on either side of the first flap, intended to form two opposite side walls of the body and each comprising two intermediate flaps

  located respectively between them and their side flaps.

  According to this European patent application: - the blank has a fourth flap, identical to the first flap and intended to form the cover of the box; - A tongue is articulated on this fourth flap, around a fold line parallel to those connecting said flaps together; and the lateral flaps coming from the flaps with cut corners are advantageously provided with lateral tabs situated respectively on each side of each of them and articulated around fold lines perpendicular to those connecting the lateral flaps to the flaps with cut corners, said side tabs being capable of being fixedly applied against the intermediate flaps after

folding of said blank.

  EP-A-0 557 172 also describes a method for producing a box of polygonal cross section from such a blank and for simultaneously packaging one or more objects in this box, this process having the following characteristics: with cut corners forming the bottom of the box and located between the other two flaps provided with intermediate flaps, an object or a group of objects to be packaged; - The flaps adjacent to said flap forming the bottom are folded around their fold lines, perpendicular to the latter; - the intermediate flaps and the side flaps extending them are folded back, then erected perpendicular to the bottom flap, around their fold lines respectively along the cut corners and fold lines connecting the bottom flap to its side flaps, to form , with the flaps from which they originate, the lateral belt of said body; - The shutter with cut corners is extended extending the corresponding shutter, adjacent to the bottom shutter, around its fold line, to bring it parallel to the latter by forming the cover of said box; and - the lateral flaps of the two flaps with cut corners are folded around their fold lines, the tongue against the lateral flaps forming the lateral belt of the body to be obtained and the lateral tabs against the

  intermediate flaps by fixing them to them.

  The essential characteristic of this process therefore lies in the fact that the box is shaped around the

  objects it is intended to contain.

  The present invention relates to a container having

  the same advantages as the known case mentioned above

  on it, but which is usually shaped before

  filling with the object or objects to be packaged.

  To this end, the subject of the invention is a container made of a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated cardboard, for the packaging of various articles, this packaging comprising a bottom portion of rectangular or octagonal shape, to which are attached. along two parallel fold lines two lateral walls perpendicular to the bottom, this container being characterized in that along the lateral edges of each wall are articulated by fold lines perpendicular to the bottom two first rectangular bands, these first bands being either perpendicular to the walls adjoining, when the bottom is rectangular, or arranged obliquely to these walls, when the bottom is octagonal, second rectangular strips being in the latter case adjoining the first strips by fold lines also perpendicular to the bottom, the first and second bands having, perpendicular to the bottom portion, a dimension substantially equal to the corresponding dimension of the parallel walls, those of the first or second strips arranged in contiguous positions being secured by a tongue erected perpendicular to the bottom part and articulated thereon by a fold line perpendicular to the parallel walls tongue being made integral with the contiguous parts of the first or second strips by any means known in the art, in particular by bonding to the faces of these turned strips

  inward or outward of the container.

  In the definition above, in the rest of the

  present description and in the appended claims,

  the expression "rectangular bottom part" includes

naturally the square bottoms.

  In the case where the bottom is octagonal, the sides of this bottom are parallel two by two, each side being of

  length equal to the one parallel to it.

  The strips assembled by the same tab may have their edges perpendicular to the bottom separated by an interval or arranged edge to edge. These bands can also partially overlap, the overlapping parts being

  possibly assembled by gluing.

  It is clear that such a container can be shaped and assembled before the placement of the objects to

  condition, since it is open at its upper part.

  In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, a third strip is articulated at the upper part of each of the parallel walls by a fold line parallel to the bottom and a tongue is also articulated by a fold line parallel to the bottom at the part upper of each first and second strip arranged perpendicularly to the parallel walls, these third strips and these tongues being able to be brought into mutual contact parallel to the bottom and be secured by any means known in the art, in particular by gluing these tongues against the face of the third bands facing the inside or outside of the container,

after filling it.

  The edges of the third strips parallel to the fold lines by which these strips are articulated on the associated side walls can be separated by a gap, or arranged edge to edge. The third parts can also be partially overlapping and then be

  possibly assembled by gluing.

  The subject of the invention is also a pre-cut and repressed blank for the production of a container of the type defined above, this blank comprising a bottom portion of rectangular or octagonal shape to which are contiguous along two parallel sides, by two first fold lines, two substantially rectangular panels of substantially identical dimensions, intended to form two parallel side walls of the container, two first rectangular strips being articulated laterally on each rectangular panel by fold lines perpendicular to the first fold lines, while, according to two parallel sides of the bottom part perpendicular to the sides along which the rectangular panels adjoin this part, two tongues are articulated respectively on this one by

  fold lines perpendicular to the first lines.

  When the bottom part of this blank has an octagonal shape, two second substantially rectangular bands are articulated laterally on the first bands by a fold line perpendicular to the first lines. Whether the bottom part has a rectangular or octagonal shape, a third substantially rectangular strip is preferably articulated at the end of each rectangular panel opposite the corresponding first fold line by a fold line parallel to this first line, while '' at the corresponding end of each first strip, if the blank has no second strips, or at the end of each second strip, if there is one, a tongue is articulated on this strip by a fold line parallel to the first line.   the invention. In this description, reference will be made to

  appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a plan view of a blank of corrugated cardboard which has been pre-cut and turned back intended for producing a package according to the invention, the bottom part of which

is octagonal.

  Figure 2 is a perspective view of the packaging made from the blank of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a variant of the blank of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a perspective view of a container according to the invention having a rectangular section bottom.

  We will first refer to Figures 1 and 2.

  The container according to the invention comprises a bottom portion 1 of octagonal shape, the opposite sides of which have

  equal dimensions and are parallel two by two.

  Two rectangular walls 2 are articulated by fold lines along two parallel sides of the bottom 1 and

  erect perpendicular to it.

  At each wall 2 are respectively adjoining laterally by fold lines perpendicular to the bottom two first rectangular strips 3 arranged obliquely to the walls 2, so that their lower edge substantially coincides with the side of the part 1 adjacent to the fold line by which the wall

  2 is articulated on this part 1.

  Each first strip 3 is attached laterally by a fold line perpendicular to the bottom 1 a second rectangular strip 4, perpendicular to the walls 2 and the lower edge of which coincides with a part of one side of the bottom 1 perpendicular to the walls 2. The bands 4 can

  have the same width or different widths.

  In this embodiment, the strips 4 have a width such as those of them whose lower edge coincides with a part on the same side of the bottom 1 perpendicular to the walls 2 partially overlap by portions 4a which can be assembled by gluing, but these strips could as well be separated from each other by an interval or be arranged edge to edge, as shown in Figure 3, o the similar parts

  are designated by the same reference numbers.

  Whether the bands 4 are overlapping or not, each band is made integral with the contiguous band by gluing against the two bands, on the face thereof facing outwards or inwards of the container, with a tongue 5 articulated on the bottom 1, along the corresponding side thereof, by a fold line perpendicular to the walls 2, this tongue being

  straightened perpendicular to the bottom 1.

  The container comprising only the elements which have just been described is therefore completely open at its upper part. After shaping and assembling of this container, it is therefore possible to introduce therein in the usual way the object or objects to be packaged, the container then being closed or not by usual means, for example with a lid.

  One can also provide at its upper part, in accordance with the invention and as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, elements adjoining the walls 2 and the bands 3 or 4, which are folded down parallel to the bottom 7 and

  which allow the stacking of containers.

  In the container shown in Figure 1 to 3, these elements include: - at the top of each wall 2, a third substantially rectangular strip 6, articulated on the wall 2 associated by a fold line parallel to the bottom 1, so to be able to be folded parallel to it, after introduction into the container of the objects to be packaged; - At the upper part of the second bands 4, a tongue 7, also articulated on the associated band by a fold line parallel to the bottom 1, so that it too can be folded parallel to the bottom 1, to be applied against the face of the contiguous ends of the bands 7 facing outward or inward

  container and made integral by gluing.

  The strips 6 can have the same width or different widths, perpendicular to the walls 2, and they can have their contiguous edges arranged edge to edge or separated from one another by an interval. The strips 6 can also partially overlap, with the overlapping parts secured by gluing or by another means known in the art. In the latter case, as seen in Figure 3, the adjoining tabs 7

  are also partially recoverable.

  After having folded the strips 6 and the tabs 7 perpendicular to the walls 2 and having joined them together, these strips and the tabs can serve as a seat for an identical container, which allows stacking

  full containers on top of each other.

  The container shown in Figure 4 is of the same general type as that just described, but the part of

  bottom is rectangular instead of being octagonal.

  At this bottom part (not visible in FIG. 4) are adjoined by fold lines, along two parallel sides, two walls 10 erected perpendicular to the bottom, on each of which are hinged laterally two first bands 11 substantially rectangular, which

  are perpendicular to the walls 11.

  At the bottom part are adjoined by fold lines perpendicular to the walls 10 two tongues 12, erected perpendicular to this bottom part and glued against the external or internal face of the strips 11,

  to make these integral with one another.

  In the embodiment shown, the contiguous bands 11 are partially overlapping, but they could equally well be arranged edge to edge or be separated by

interval.

  Advantageously, to allow stacking of the folded containers, strips 13 are articulated at the upper part of the walls 10 by a fold line parallel to the bottom, so that they can be folded down parallel to the latter, while at the upper part bands 11, tongues 14 - here partially overlapping - are articulated on these by fold lines parallel to the bottom, so that they can be folded parallel to the latter, to come into contact with the bands 9 and be made integral by bonding or by any other means known in the art. As before, the bands 13 can be partially overlapping or have their edges free

  separated by a gap or arranged edge to edge.

  Note the great simplicity of the containers according to the invention and the ease with which they can be

  shaped, assembled and filled with objects to be packaged.

Claims (9)

  1. Container made of a semi-rigid material such as cardboard or corrugated cardboard, for the packaging of various articles, this packaging comprising a bottom part (1) of rectangular or octagonal shape, to which are attached along two lines of parallel folding two side walls (2, 10) perpendicular to the bottom (1), this container being characterized in that along the lateral edges of each wall (2, 10) are articulated by folding lines perpendicular to the bottom two first rectangular strips (3, 11), these first strips being either perpendicular to the adjoining walls (10), when the bottom is rectangular, or arranged obliquely with respect to these walls (2), when the bottom is octagonal, second rectangular strips (4 ) being in the latter case adjoining the first bands (3) by fold lines also perpendicular to the bottom, the first and second bands having, perpendicular to the part bottom (1), a dimension substantially equal to the corresponding dimension of the parallel walls (2, 10), those of the first or second strips arranged in adjoining positions being secured by a tongue (5, 12) erected perpendicular to the bottom part and articulated thereon by a fold line perpendicular to the parallel walls (2, 10), this tongue (5, 12) being made integral with the contiguous parts of the first or second strips (4, 11) by any means known in the art. technique, in particular by gluing on the faces of these strips   facing the inside or outside of the container.   2. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that the first or second strips (4, 11) assembled   by the same tab (5, 12) partially overlap.   3. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that the edges perpendicular to the bottom (1) of the first or second strips (4, 11) assembled by the same tab (5, 12) are separated by a gap or arranged edge to edge .   4. Container according to one of claims 1 to 4,   characterized in that a third strip (6, 13) is articulated at the upper part of each of the parallel walls (2, 10) by a fold line parallel to the bottom and in that a tongue (7, 14) is also articulated by a fold line parallel to the bottom at the top of each first strip (11) or second strip (14) arranged perpendicular to the parallel walls (2,), these third strips (6, 13) and these tabs (7 , 14) can be brought into mutual contact parallel to the bottom and be secured by any means known in the art, in particular by gluing these tabs against the face of the third strips facing the inside or outside of the container. 5. Container according to claim 4, characterized in that   that the bands (6, 13) are partially overlapping.   6. Container according to claim 4, characterized in that the contiguous edges of the strips (6, 13) are separated by   an interval or arranged edge to edge.   7. Blank in a semi-rigid material, precut and repressed, for the production of a container according to one of   Claims 1 to 3, this blank comprising a bottom portion   (1) of rectangular or octagonal shape to which are attached along two parallel sides, by two first fold lines, two panels (2, 10) substantially rectangular, of substantially identical dimensions, intended to form two parallel side walls of the container, two first rectangular bands (3, 11) being articulated laterally on each rectangular panel (2, 10) by fold lines perpendicular to the first fold lines, while, along two parallel sides of the bottom part (1) perpendicular to the sides according to which the rectangular panels (2, 10) are attached to this part (1), two tongues (5, 12) are articulated respectively on this one by fold lines perpendicular to the first lines.   8. A blank according to claim 7, in which the bottom part is of octagonal shape, characterized in that two second substantially rectangular second bands (4) are articulated laterally on the first bands (3) by a   fold line perpendicular to the first lines.   9. Blank according to one of claims 7 and 8,   characterized in that a third substantially rectangular strip (6, 13) is articulated at the end of each rectangular panel (2, 10) opposite to the corresponding first fold line by a fold line parallel to this first line, while that at the corresponding end of each first strip (11), if the blank does not have second strips, or at the end of each second strip (4), if it does, there is provided a tongue (14 , 7) articulated on this strip (11, 4) by a   fold line parallel to the first line.
