Abstract

This invention pertains to a system of counterfoil binding, fit in particular to classify documents in the form of loose sheets; it includes a number of thin superposed strips (2), which are bound together by any convenient means and covered, on either side, with an adhesive layer (1), characterized by the fact that the whole of the adhesive surface (1) is covered with a coating (3) in which is provided at least a line (4) of least resistance making it possible to partially remove the film (3a) as to substitute for it at least part of the loose sheet to be classified (7); in this way the sheet lies in the prolongation of the detached part (3b) of the film.

Description

The present invention relates to a heel binding and more specifically to a system for gathering, for example for archiving and filing purposes, documents consisting of loose sheets or the like.

Various systems for classifying such documents are known, among which we may cite binders with perforated sheets or perforated plastic folders, binders with zippers and jaws, binders with rods, wire, glued edges, and ...

All these systems have various disadvantages for various reasons: they are impractical, or bulky, or require special instruments, or do not allow updating by inserting tabs, and ...

Document DE-A-2,408,108 relates to an individual element for classifying a loose sheet by gluing, consisting of a unitary bar intended to serve as an intermediary between said sheet and a conventional rotary binder for loose sheets . This solution is absolutely not intended to compensate for the thickness of the sheets to be classified and the objective of this document is not, moreover, to constitute a binding proper.

The document US-A-755.002, if it relates to a solution aimed at compensating for thickness, proposes a classification system consisting of two types of bands of unequal width, stacked and folded in the middle, the wide bands being able to be rendered sticky on both sides. Such a system has many drawbacks such as the folding of strips on themselves resulting in extra thickness to the folding and the forecasting of a complex structure for holding the assembly, necessarily manufactured and therefore necessarily more expensive to manufacture.

In other systems, thought has been given to using the collage of documents on heels gathered in a rigid folder. Thus in patent FR No. 1,581,616 a heel system is described consisting of strips coated on one of their faces with an adhesive, each strip being foldable into two parts, one of which is provided with a protective tape covering the adhesive. The strips stick to each other to form a heel, while the parts provided with a protective strip can receive a sheet by gluing after removal of said strip. This system has the major drawback that due to the folding of said strips, when the assembly is tight in a rigid jacket, and the extra thickness of the parts of the strips on which the sheets to be classified are glued, only one can be classified. very few documents.

Furthermore, in patent FR No. 740,536 there is provided a plurality of heels connected in the manner of a book and on each of which it is possible to fix, for example by gluing a loose sheet. This system also has the serious disadvantage that the bonding of each sheet on a part of each heel results in an additional thickness at the bonding zone, proportional to the number of sheets bonded which, again, very substantially limits the capacities and the interest of such a device.

The object of the invention is to propose a device of the heel type provided with adhesive eliminating the drawbacks of the known devices mentioned above.

The assembly can thus be tightened flat without any excess thickness since the stacking of the bands constituting the heels of this binding system retains a constant thickness regardless of the number of sheets glued.

The assembly can thus receive an envelope like book or album, removable or not. Several such assemblies can thus be superimposed and connected by any suitable means.

The heel binding according to the invention, as illustrated in FIG. 1, comprises a superposition of elementary composite strips made up of an adhesive film 1 applied to the whole of one of the faces of a strip 2, for example rectangular any flexible or rigid material, transparent or opaque, and itself fully covered with a film 3 of suitable material, easily removable from the adhesive in the known manner.

Said film 3 is divided into two parts 3a, 3b by a line of least resistance 4 parallel to the longitudinal edges of the strip and allowing the removal of one of the parts of the film and more precisely the part 3a located opposite the edge of the stack of heel strips.

In FIG. 1 there is shown a heel strip 5 provided with its complete film 3a, 3b and a heel band 6 whose part 3a of the film 3 has been removed to receive in its place a loose leaf 7.

Several heel bands such as 5 and 6 are assembled in superposition and bonded by bonding, the assembly being done in line with the parts 3b of the heel bands so as to be able to access the parts 3a of all the heel bands.

The thickness of the films 3 corresponds to the average thickness of a loose sheet so that the total thickness of the stack of heel strips such as 5 and 6 is in no way modified by the presence of the sheets 7.

The dimensions of the heel bands are variable. They may or may not correspond to those of the covers or envelopes capable of covering and enclosing the heel strips in the manner of a book for example.

The detachable part 3a can correspond to the dimensions of the sheet element to be glued 7.

Line 4 of lesser resistance can be completed (FIG. 2) by similar perpendicular lines 8 formed in part 3a in order to allow the bonding of several documents of reduced dimensions on the same heel strip, side by side and therefore without extra thickness.

Line 4 is not necessarily in the middle of the heel band (FIG. 3) and the irremovable part 2 of the latter may also include one or more lines 9 of less resistance in order to reduce or modify the dimensions of this part 2.

In the embodiment illustrated by FIGS. 4a to 4c, the film 3 ′ covering the adhesive 1 has a thickness significantly greater than that of the documents to be bonded 7 and its part capable of being detached (3 ′ a) is divided in three parts 10,11,12 detachable separately. For this purpose, there are provided several lines of lower resistance 4 parallel allowing on the same heel strip the superposition of several documents 7 with a slight offset between them as illustrated by said Figures 4a to 4c.

The increased thickness of the film 3 'makes it possible to receive several superimposed sheets 7 without any extra thickness, this allowing the introduction of possible dividers in the filing of documents.

Preferably the adhesive 1 is such that it allows the possible removal of the pasted document and its replacement by another.

Furthermore, the heel bands can be associated by bundles, packages or modules which may themselves be combined in the same binding or assembly system, which gives the device of the invention a great deal of flexibility.

According to yet another variant, the strip 2 of each heel strip can be coated with an adhesive film on its two faces and with a detachable film identical to the film 3 also on its two faces, which makes it possible to paste two documents on the same heel band always without any excess thickness of the latter.

Finally, it is possible between the successive heel bands to insert in the stack a photo album type separation sheet of any size, possibly provided with location indexes at any location overflowing with the format of the bundle of classified documents. .

Claims (5)

1. Stub binding, particularly for the filing of documents (7) in the form of loose sheets, formed by single composite strips of a type known per se and each consisting of an adhesive coating (1) applied to the whole of one face of a thin strip (2) made from any material and itself entirely covered by a film (3) of protective material which can be easily detached from the adhesive, the said film (3) having, parallel to its longitudinal edges, at least one line of least strength (4) enabling one part (3a) of the said film (3) to be removed for the purpose of substituting for it at least part of the sheet to be filed in order to stick it onto the adhesive film, and the remainder (3b) of the film to be held in place, characterised in that:

   a) the thickness of the film (3) is equal to or greater than that of the sheets in the documents (7) to be filed;

   b) the single composite strips are stuck together solely at the level of the strip parts corresponding to the said remainder (3b) of the film (3), and

   c) the binding takes the form of a superimposition of strips stuck together by the edge before the documents (7) to be filed are put in place.
2. Stub binding according to Claim 1, characterised in that the said line (4) is supplemented by one or more lines (8) of least strength provided in the detachable part (3a) preferably at right angles to the said line (4).
3. Stub binding according to either of Claims 1 or 2, characterised in that the said thin strip (2) has at least one line of least strength (9) enabling the dimensions of the said strip (2) to be modified.

Stub binding according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the said film (3') has a thickness appreciably greater than the average thickness of the documents (7) to be filed and has several lines (4) of least strength parallel to the free edge of the said non-detached part (3b), so that several documents (7) can be stuck onto the same stub strip, each one being stuck onto the part of the adhesive (1) exposed by one of the parts (10, 11, 12) thus defined in the said film (3').
5. Stub binding according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the said thin strip (2) is provided on both faces with an adhesive coating (1) covered with a partially detachable film.
