Abstract

An adsorbent, for example activated charcoal, is added at the position (36) into the scrubbing liquid of the ring jet stage (16) of the scrubber (10). This adsorbent is entrained in the circulation of the ring jet stage (16) and passes via the pipe (38) against the flow of the flue gas into the upstream tower packing stage (14). Adsorbent together with scrubbing liquid is passed from the circulation from the scrubbing liquid of this stage (14) via the pipe (38') to the quenching stage (12). The adsorbent removes the organic pollutants and the heavy metals from the scrubbing liquid. <IMAGE>
