Fait and stackable cardboard box

The utility model to which this description refers is intended to guarantee the exclusive exploitation and ownership rights throughout the country for a new foldable and stackable cardboard box.

In order to improve the mechanical properties of cardboard boxes intended for the storage of perishable foodstuffs and to increase their economic efficiency, a new folding system has been developed which not only increases the resistance of the hollow corner pillar to deformation due to compression, but also greatly simplifies the assembly of the box, thereby noticeably reducing its cost.

Various systems have been used to form the corner pillars that allow the box to support the weight of the following boxes stacked on top of it, together with their contents, keeping them centered and at the same time preventing them from being crushed.

In this sense, and using corrugated cardboard as the starting material, extremely strong pillars are formed starting from an appropriate overlapping folding of a series of panels which protrude beyond the side of the cardboard and which, in forming the pillar, give off several thicknesses of cardboard; the said successive folding of panels is carried out in a circular manner and in the same direction of rotation.

Applicant's invention in which certain improvements are introduced consisting in a logical modification in the performance of the over-lapping folding of the series of panels projecting beyond one side of the carton, in such a way that the two outer panels are folded outwards upon themselves in a circular manner? but in the reverse direction to that usually performed in the aforesaid utility models, the projection of the converging side being enclosed and mechanically held between the two outer folded-down panels, the whole forming the hypotenuse of a hollow pillar in the form of a triangular prism, consisting of three layers of material to support the weight of the stacked cartons, rising at their upper end to form the head which, by means of a conventional bush, holds the hollow corner pillar together.

This arrangement forms a retaining rib which gives the new cardboard box a strength and rigidity which is _far superior to conventional cardboard boxes, in that the outer surfaces of one side hold together in the manner of clamping jaws the projection of the side which runs towards it, while remaining firmly together and being able to be clamped by inserting a plastic bushing onto each of the projecting pillars which form the four corners of the cardboard box.

The new foldable and stackable cardboard box brings noticeable improvements compared to

conventional cardboard boxes that are currently known,

whose new features of design/construction and construction, as well as the speed of assembly and the resulting strength, give rise to a new auxiliary object of great utility, which at the same time is not complicated from the point of view of construction and fulfils the task for which it was specifically invented with the greatest safety and expediency.

For a better understanding of the purpose and purely as an example, a drawing sheet is attached. In it:

Fig. 1 shows the top view of one of the four corners of the box structure.

Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the corner indicated in Fig. 1 during the folding process, in which the outer surfaces of one of the sides can be seen, which are closed over the appropriately folded edge of the side leading to it in order to mechanically form a loop.

Fig. 3 shows the top view of the corner indicated in Fig. 2 after the folding operation has been completed, after which the sleeve can be placed on top, the inner walls of which hold the loop together; this prevents the boxes from falling apart again; the drawing shows an example of how the folding is carried out in practice.

Figure 4 shows a perspective view of one of the four corners of the box, with the bushing already in place that covers and holds the hollow corner pillar together.

As shown in Fig. 1, we see one of the four corners of the corrugated cardboard box structure, which comprises the two converging sides (1) and (2), one (2) extended over three faces (3), (4) and (5), connected laterally by inward-facing fold lines (6) and (7), excluding face (5) which occupies the outermost position and whose fold line (8) faces outwards, in such a way that when the sides (1) and (2) are folded 90° with respect to the bottom (20) of the box, the first face (3), which is narrower than the other two faces (4) and (5), folded 90°, forms in section a cathetus (15), while the other two outer faces, which are wider, form the hypotenuse (14) when the face (5) is folded over the face (4) on the outward-facing fold line (8), according to Fig. 2.

The other side (1) of the cardboard box has a stepped shoulder (9) which, together with another stepped shoulder (10) of the side converging thereto and the upper part of the three surfaces (3), (4) and (5), forms the head piece when folded; laterally and in the direction of the inner part of the stepped shoulder (9) of the side (1) there is a projection (11) which, folded at 45° towards the inside of the box, is conveniently housed between the two lower surfaces (4) and (5), formed during the process of assembling the box, thereby forming a retaining rib (12) which, together with the new cardboard box, forms the hollow corner pillar (13) in the form of a three-stringed prism.

This new cardboard box gives the pillar (13) a much higher compressive strength than those cardboard pillars obtained by successive folding, in that the hypotenuse (14) is given a threefold thickness of material by enclosing the protrusion (11) of the side (1) which at the same time reinforces the material to threefold thickness for the purpose of fixing the bushing (16); as a result of all this, the hollow corner pillar (13) has a previously unknown rigidity.

In order to prevent the box from accidentally falling apart, a hollow plastic sleeve (16) is placed on top, which holds the pillar (13) together by means of the headpiece; the sleeve (16) in the form of a three-sided prism is provided with teeth on each of its inner walls which facilitate insertion but prevent accidental falling apart as soon as these teeth engage in the respective angular notches (17) provided on the sides of the headpiece.

The bushing (16) is provided on its top surface with a projection (18) in the form of ^a truncated cone which rises above the geometric centre of said bushing (16) and which, when stacked, is sunk into the locking opening (19) provided on the bottom (20) of the box and diagonally, coinciding with the base of the hollow corner pillar (13), thus allowing the box stacked immediately above to be centred and thus preventing accidental sliding.
