Device for collecting wood lying in the swath

The invention relates to a device for collecting wood lying in a swath.

When a bend or small wood is cut down, the felled wood is usually deposited in a 3m wide pile next to the remaining stumps. This so-called "swath" has to be loaded manually onto a trailer or similar.

or fed by hand into a shredder for removal.

Both require a considerable amount of work, which is correspondingly costly. Fork grabs are also already known, which pick up the fallen wood into a chipping machine with fork shovels and transport it into it. Although these enable heavy branches and pieces of trees to be lifted, they are generally no different from the time and effort required to pick up a swath.

The object of the present invention is to equip a vehicle in such a way that a continuous work process is possible by simply driving over the swath, whereby wood chips are either fed into a suitable transport vehicle via an ejector or back onto the bend. By avoiding constant stopping and starting, the impact on the environment should also be reduced.

This is achieved by a device having the features of the main claim. The subclaims give advantageous embodiments of the invention.

It is particularly advantageous that a modular chipping system can be installed on a pick-up device, a so-called pick-up, so that a mobile machine, such as that used for harvesting corn, can be used as a drive for the device for picking up wood lying in the swath without major conversion work. The pick-up device is intended for common forage harvesters with special adaptation sections for the various brands on the market. This is intended to make the original use

the machine cannot be excluded, but can be made possible again by appropriate modifications.

The chipping system itself is installed without any special adapters. Only the wood chips produced are then transported in the forage harvester itself. To support the chipping transport, an additional blower module is provided, which directs an air flow upwards from below, connected to the chipping device, to transport the chips.

The swath is then picked up from the ground by a first roller, which is provided with pick-up mandrels that are perpendicular to the roller surface, preferably designed as four straight rows of mandrels, and is guided between the compression rollers to the chipping device via a plurality (e.g. four) transport-supporting feed rollers that are arranged in a row after the first pick-up roller. The feed rollers are provided with transport-supporting elevations (drivers) in the form of, preferably, axially parallel edges, since these no longer have to lift the wood from the ground like the first pick-up roller.

Above the rollers, fixed plates are advantageously arranged on the left and right so that they gradually reduce the receiving width, for example from 3 m to 0.75 m, namely the width of the chipping system. Instead of the fixed plates, vertically arranged belts, chains and rollers could be used to compact the wood towards the middle.

If necessary, the speed can be regulated to ensure better recording.

Advantageously, the drive of the pivoting upper compression roller is provided without lateral guide slots in the sides of the feed channel, approved with appropriate guide covers.

The actual chipping machine consists of an open, horizontal drum with two continuous knives that strike the wood fixed between the compression rollers from above and also take over the actual conveying of the chipped material, as they are operated at high speeds.

An additional gripper can be provided for handling logs lying sideways in order to avoid unnecessary maneuvering with the forage harvester vehicle. However, this gripper is not primarily used for continuously feeding the machine.

The wood chips are sent by the air stream into a discharge device (not shown), which either scatters the wood chips next to the vehicle, for example on the bend, or transports them into a trailer running alongside or even towed, so that the wood chips can be used for further economic purposes, either as fuel, in the so-called wood chip kilns, or as pure fertilizer.

In Fig. 1, the forage harvester 10 is schematically indicated, which is usually provided on its front side, starting below a driver's cab 12, with devices for receiving mowing devices, corn harvesting devices or the like.

In Fig. 1, a front unit of a chipping machine is provided with a driven first roller 14, which conveys wood to a high-speed knife drum 16. A roller 18 is provided below the driven roller 14, so that wood is clamped between these rollers and moved to the knife drum 16, which is arranged transversely to the direction of travel and on which at least one knife chops up the wood in a planing or striking rotation.

Integral with this device are the longitudinal extensions shown in Fig. 3 as extending outwards.

larger rollers 20 are provided, in front of which a roller 22 provided with receiving mandrels 24 (see Fig. 2) is advantageously provided. The first roller can be operated at a different speed than the feed rollers 20 via a separate hydraulic drive. Furthermore, a pivoting receiving device with the aid of lifting cylinders is provided in relation to the chipping system, which is fixedly arranged on the forage harvester.

In Fig. 1, a gripping device 28 is also indicated, which can be used to place larger logs lying transversely, which are not grasped by the receiving mandrels, onto the feed device, as shown in Fig. 3, consisting essentially of the plurality of rollers and the receiving roller, in such a way that the log is conveyed in its longitudinal direction to the chipping device. This is able to break up even thicker logs.

The wood chips are discharged via a path behind the cutting disk, indicated only schematically with reference number 3 0, which is directed diagonally upwards. An additional blower 3 2 can be used to supply an additional air flow in order to transport the wood chips over a long discharge path, for example to a tractor driving alongside. However, under certain circumstances the wood can remain in place, for example on a bend. Finally, it is also conceivable to operate the forage harvester with a towed trailer into which the wood chips are fed over a longer distance.

for example, have six axially parallel, approximately rectangular notched plates 34 as driving elements. The fact that the length of the rollers 20 decreases inwards towards the compression roller combination 14, 18 can be clearly seen in Fig. 2, in which the guide plates 38 are also indicated when viewed from above, which, in conjunction with the receiving mandrels and the driving edges 34, transport the wood to the compression roller and finally to the chipping roller.

Claims (6)

1. Device for picking up wood lying in a swath, characterized by a combination of a chipping system with a picking up device which can be attached to a forage harvester as a front-mounted unit and which consists of a plurality of picking up and feeding rollers arranged transversely to the direction of travel. 2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the first roller is provided as a receiving roller with receiving mandrels. 3. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a feed device between the take-up roller and compression rollers provided in front of the chipping device consists of feed rollers arranged on the underside of the feed section with axially parallel driving edges arranged on the shell side. 4. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the chipping device consists of a rotating impact roller with knife elements arranged transversely to the feed device, behind which a discharge guide for the wood chips is provided. 5. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by an additional air flow amplifier arranged within the forage harvester for diverting the wood chips over a further distance. 6. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by a drive for the pickup roller which can be separately regulated in speed and is driven via the hydraulics of the forage harvester.
